*I was certain the Fly would be beaten and said it was a place lay all year. I thought The New One was the best chance of a winner in the race, and it was about my biggest bet of the week, but never claimed its a certainty, after all its racing.
*I didn't have a strong opinion on Sire de Grugy either way, I thought the best bet in that race was Sizing Europe to place. *I couldn't see anything other than Bob's Worth in the GC and filled my boots charging round all the different Will Hills I could find for the 4/1. To be honest, I still cant believe Lord Windermere won. Again though, I didn't say it was a certainty, there's no such thing. |

the new one was possibly the most unluckiest champion hurdle runner ever, lost god knows how many lengths in running and to be beaten only 2 1/2 was an amazing effort.
|

What about that horse got left 15 lengths at the start...was it Urbain De Sivola, and still finished fourth. That was pretty unlucky too.

the new one got back into the race then got outpaced again, needs 2 and a half !

MTOY's was the unluckiest horse at the festival because rather than being undone by other circumstance, he is costing himself by his ridiculous pulling and still going on to show just how good he is later in the race, IF he settles (and now it does become an if, because there is the very real chance now that unless he is allowed to run himself into the ground, he'll always pull) he'd be a brilliant winner of the race TNO getting hampered or not.
MTOY's pulling like he does is equally as bad as losing actual ground because he is simply burning energy that others are not. |
|
By:
The people that say TNO got back into the race are missing the point. It's not just the lengths lost its the energy used getting back on.
|
|
By:
He didn't get back into the race anyway. Phucking nonsense that is. Was always behind.
|
|
By:
well he didnt win did he,jezki should have the supreme, but didnt, thats racing,im sure tno was only 2-3 length off the pace at the top of the hill
|
|
By:
At the top of the hill he was a length behind MTOY. Then he lost ground running downhill and ran on uphill. Next year if it's good ground he'll be done exactly the same way especially if he goes into the race as favourite.

TNO should be chasing

So you do not think having to make up half a dozen lengths after loosing momentum might have cost him a bit of energy?

There isn't an expert one horse racing anywhere who doesn't need a stash of humble pie. It's those that turn up to dish it out are the most annoying...

it was an unlucky loser i agree, but was always especially on that ground going to get outpaced at some point !

I really don't know how much energy it cost the horse brandy. I do know he stayed on well when he hit the rising ground. The race was lost because he lacked the speed to go with them down the hill in my view. Was that down to him making ground up after the setback? My view is it wasn't. It's only a personal view but making excuses for beaten horses costs money in the long run. All I know for sure is that he was in a very good position at the top of the hill and couldn't maintain that position. Like I said if he carries all before him next season and I thought he was the one to beat I'd be hoping for a decent but not fast pace till the top of the hill and then kick on at that point. To my mind on good ground that will see TNO beaten with him flying home and just failing to collar the winner.

Losing momentum definitely ended the race there and then for TNO. Try going for a run or a bike ride, stop and then start again. The starting again bit, getting up to your previous speed takes so much more energy than if you stayed at a constant speed. It's like a car uses more petrol accelerating than it does travelling at a constant speed.
Its no different to The New One losing ground, where all his energy that he would have used at the end, was used having to make up ground that he'd lost in the first place. I had no money riding on the finish (I was on the Fly). Impossible to say if TNO would have won, but Jezki was a game winner imo. A proper ride, good ground and being up with the pace really suited him. This backed up his good performance in the Supreme and when he won the novice G1 in Punchestown when he beat Champagne Fever. Looking forward to next years already. |

I take your point but isn't it undermined by the fact that TNO finished like a train? On one hand you are saying the horses energy was dissipated by the event but on the other the evidence of our eyes shows up this isn't the case. There is only one thing we know for an absolute fact and that is that he couldn't go with them down the hill. Why that was is the crucial question? We may find out this time next year. On soft ground I think the horse will more easily be able to maintain his position. On good ground I expect the same thing to happen. |

He showed plenty of boot over a flat 2 miles around Kempton though didn't he.
