Read Ian Renton saying they had massively improved the Phone/3G coverage as well as installing Wifi on course that would be getting rolled out at 2014 Festival. He did mention 7 bookies had paid £25k each approximately towards costs - but other firms wouldn't be allowed to use the wifi and would be blocked if anyone tried to access other companies.

Jut wondered from those who attended this year if it had improved any in comparison to years gone by where it was hopeless even trying to dial out.

Also who were the 7 betting partners ?

Was there tue & wed, wifi in centaur was great but in club enclosure grandstand it was patchy at best ...I was mostly using betfair so maybe they didn't contribute but in any case they need to invest more in this

Mobile and 3G signals were good, but getting onto any websites was as bad as it's ever been imo. It improved out in the middle of the track away from the masses, but not good by any means.

Wireless worked great on the Thursday, just plain didn't work on the Tuesday and Wednesday .

I thought it was horrific. Couldn't make a call or send a text, or get on the internet all four days.

I'm with EE and have 4G, it seemed much better than usual. able to make calls, txt and use internet and apps to bet. Wasn't perfect were times when I couldn't send a txt as well, but was a massive improvement on previous years

Found it almost as bad as other years. Friday was atrocious even for texting and calls.

been going 27 years - wifi was perfect worked all 4 days, mobile betting as arrived.note chelt didn't pay for it only the desperation of big 7 made it happen.

best pitches are now behind the stand near the food court or beer tent - rings empty.plus they give 1 point less behind the stand so go business bobby.

loads of tote terminals, small queues yet record turnover, the privateisation of the tote as paid off big time for freddie and the extra take-out all makes its most profitable for the done mafia.

dear betfair - you are getting squeezed by all the great offers other firms are offering so I hardly used you ,which given my brand loyalty is sad.

laddies were giving a £5 free bet with the local paper everyday ,given they ve got 3 shops now in centre and numerous tills means you can easily get 50 a day on with 50 a day on free(meant to be only one per customer)but get your mates to do it for you.

laddies in chelt shops only were first 6 in big hcps and first 5 in all other races.

I mean it comes to something when the tightest bookie is offering the best deals, betfair is being squeezed out,.even offering me double profit by Thursday in a desperate attempt to attract be back.

although betfair have best odds, their rigid first 4 places or lack of options with offers leaves them isolated in this competitive market place.

they should offer there all year round regular customers a special deal come Cheltenham.

comingupthehill, agree regarding Betfair.
I did 80% of my business with 3x online books, and the rest with BF.
Only backing biggies in handicaps was of any value last week.

The wi fi they offered was a complete waste of time.

As for mobile data, it has got progressively worse in recent years as more people have smart phones. Virtually unusable for the whole festival in 2013.

However, this year, although far from perfect, was better for the first 3 days but just as bad as in previous years on Gold Cup day with its bigger attendance.

Only place I could use the phone for anything was out by the cheese wedges on the Cross Country course and I wasn't staying out there for the week.
I came to the opinion that they actually switched the bugger off 10 minutes before each race.
