Both Ruby and Cooper have ridden the horse before and neither have a ride in the race? Seems a bizarre move.

Seems unusual that Tony Martin would turn to Mullins when Cooper, Walsh and Carberry all available. Walsh and Carberry have been his go to men in these big handicaps in the past. |

Well he has shortened this evening as there was plenty of 14/1 earlier but none left now, so it obviously hasn't put some off

Gary O'Brien suggested on the ATR preview that Ruby would have turned down the ride, which he saw as a big negative. |

Maybe Ruby only riding for Mullins this week, for some peculiar reason doesn't want to ride anyone else's.
Anyway don't buy into the Mullins not good enough theory. In general punters think there should only be 3 jockeys riding, Walsh, Geraghty and McCoy. Danny Mullins is one of the best young jockeys in Ireland. Cooper and Enright are others. There are max ten better in his profession in Ireland, maybe only 5 if you're a supporter of him. He's a confident youngster, he's well able to handle a horse and he's able to keep the head in big races. Honestly think some people over rate the importance of the jockey. |

I don't think he's that bad a jockey SYT but backed the horse before the booking was announced and was expecting Ruby or at least Cooper; both of whom are better riders than Danny - I think most would agree. It's one of the risks of jumping the gun, I realise.
If he was to win on it, my opinion of him may improve immeasurably in a very short space of time  |

I wouldn't argue that Ruby and Cooper aren't better but I wouldn't worry about that either Glossy. Just reading a few threads last week on the Irish Sports forum....a few writing off Our Conor on the basis he was riding which I think is ridiculous. As I say, there are max 10 better options on the island of Ireland ! What I like about Mullins is that he's a very cool customer and the pressure of a big race won't affect him. He'd probably thrive on it. So long as he keeps it simple, nobody should have any reason to worry, which I expect he will, both on Our Conor and Wrong Turn.

Ruby is being VERY selective with his mounts at the minute - he took last weekend off at WPM's insistence - so he may well have been encouraged to turn down an outside ride on an iffy jumper given some of the Mullins rides in prospect for the rest of the week.
Not that any of the Closutton horses couldn't fall and injure him, of course, but I suppose it would be particularly frustrating for it to happen on a horse he didn't have to ride because there's no stable connection. |

You're probably right Jez. I guess he has his obligations to Mullins and the chance of getting injured (however unlikely) in the hurly burly of a large field handicap, riding for a trainer that he is not contracted to; is best avoided. After all, can you imagine if he was to miss the ride on Hurricane Fly in the next race!
