Sam DID go too soon last time, particularly given the strength of the pace. That being said, a fully fit Big Bucks would have relished the stamina aspect and would have held on comfortably. The conclusion? Sam did go too soon, but he did so on the basis that the Big Buck's of old would have been suited by that kind of stamina test up the hill, whereas the half fit Big Buck's just ran out of gas. Had Sam waited another furlong he would have won, but I think it's a little harsh to blame him. Notwithstanding, Nicholls is a Class A prick

not sure Nicholls has got the best sense of humour but I did like the way he defended the jockey and said 'blame me'.
I would n't have a strong opinion on the ride but STD is young, still learning his trade and deserves supporting. |

No worries, STD came in for a lot of stick for the ride at the time, This article made a lot more sense than some of the armchair jock comments i was reading after the Cleeve.
