if he runs, then Willie just cost McManus £20k supplementary fee. The money is neither here nor there to JP, but it will be the principle of the thing, will never send Willie another horse again.

1000/1 to run

What principle?  Does WM have to clear his entries with JP first? Surprised

Is it possible that JP authorised the supplement of the Captain to negate the threat of a free run from the front for UDS...?

Does WM have to clear his entries with JP first?

Mullins trains at least 4 horses currently for JP, £80-100k in training fees plus his share of prizemoney

If Frank Berry didn't ring Willie first and make sure UDS wasn't running before telling his boss to shell out 20k, he needs sacking

What were JP's first runners for Willie Mullins?

They were horses that were bought by JP who were already in training with Willie and there is a reason for that. He has had a couple who were bought before been sent to Willie but that is only in the last couple of years.

Willie has a much stronger relationship and sense of loyalty to other owners in the stable.

I doubt Willie Mullins would go into much details (that aren't public knowledge)about his champion hurdle plans with any connections of JP and I doubt he was approached about it either.

irish-guy-13, you make yourself look a langer from your offensive reply, it was merely a suggestion, it has been known to happen before and will again no doubt, if you had given reasons why you believe it to be preposterous, all good and well, but posts like your own say everything about what is wrong with 90% of the stuff that is posted on this forum.

you may be right, dj. I'll believe it if UDS runs

It's not here or there whether UDS runs (which I don't think he will). It's publicly known that Willie was reluctant to initially train for JP (The first few were all bought when already in training there).I am not suggesting there is any animosity now but there wouldn't be a firm friendship either.

20K to JP isn't even loose change-it's only a bit of fun to him now.He started a new charity trust in Ireland today worth €40 million (you can debate the merits or demerits of being a philanthropist tax exile).

They wouldn't even ask Willie about the pace of the race (apart from in a jesting manner),that's all part of the game and JP is much more aligned with the Henderson camp.

Pretty sure (as on can be) that hes just left in in case HF gets injured, hope im wrong cos would love to see such an exciting front runner in the race.....plus he wins me a fair amount as well.

The addition of Captain Cee Bee might suit Un De Sceaux who might be able race handy as usually does without having to make the pace. Perhaps that is what swayed it for Mullins.
By:
pedrobob
When: 08 Mar 14 12:57
if UDS runs, very unlikely would not make the pace.

Captain Cee Bee crawled along last two starts and not a natural pacemaker. Presumably only supplemented because McManus didn't have any other classy enough types that was willing to sacrifice.

Suggestions that Jezki would set a decent gallop for MTOY laughable, as he has a decent enough chance himself coming off a strong pace, but not setting one.

But will be shocked if Willie declares UDS tomorrow given he is doing everything he can to get Hurricane to win.

Those 4 horses probably represent about 1% of the bloodstock empire of a man worth about £500M and about 2% of Mullins string.  The idea that he would have to discuss the running plans of another owners horse or potentially suffer a loss of all future business is just nickels and dimes.  It would also show a distinct lack of loyalty, a trait men like JP generally cherish.

"Un De Sceaux isn't travelling to Cheltenham and we will wait another while before deciding on end-of-season targets for him," said Ireland's champion trainer.

In England, normal practice for trainers to ring each other to ask if they are running a horse. Is Ireland any different?

Aah, sorry.  I didn't realise JP had a trainers license.  Or is it Frank?
