Gold Cup it is then.  As I said on the Gold Cup Thread.  He was going clear in the RSA chase last year until he fell at the last and he seems to be the forgotten horse.  Worse 33/1 shots IMO and this year there is not much depth to the race.  Do I think he'll win? No, but worth a sniff at 33/1 NRNB.

Has he got any form at all over further than 2 1/2 miles? Only his second in the potato race that I know of. Not saying this can't run a race but it would surely be a monumental turn up if it even got round in the Gold Cup?

You may well be right Marychain, but his festival form is pretty good. 2nd to Brindisi Breeze (That horse could have been special IMO)and then would have won the RSA but for falling at the last.  Yes the Cleeve was a poor run last time and needs to be forgiven but still 33/1 is fair I'd say.

I've no idea where this horse is heading next. But it is interesting they decided to school him over fences with Ballycasey and co at the weekend.

Of course he stays.  Silly comment. Otherwise he wouldn't have finished 2nd to Brindisi Breeze with loads behind him and was going clear in the RSA until he fell.

Whether he is good enough is a different matter.

Genuinely think he has been handled appallingly since. Held up in races too short of his required trip
Dropped out 20 lenghts last at Punchestown,why?. Very unlucky in the RSA,struggle to comprehend how anyone
can say he wouldn't have won. Then slung over hurdles cos he can't jump apparently!

Mullins talking in the paper this morning about supplementing On His Own for the Gold Cup and states Boston Bob has not been ruled out of running in it.

Given they're in the same ownership, I'd have thought if they supplement OHO then Bob won't run.

For me, he's still a hype horse in the sense that his reputation far outstrips his achievements.

To the best of my knowledge, there has been no explanation for the absolute stinker he ran in the Cleeve - he could've hated the ground of course but I doubt any of the runners enjoyed the ground that day.

Supplementing On His Own is not the worst idea imo, coming off two impressive wins and a probable career best lto.

As awesome as the stable is, it strikes me they're guessing a bit with Bob.

one year on, it looks a poor RSA too.

...and, even if you accept he would have won RSA if he'd stood up, does that and his subsequent form really entitle him to be half the price (generally) of Lord Windermere who won it?

What would the odds be if their stables were swapped around?

All valid points Reaseheath,and maybe he is a hype horse as his done nothing to prove either wise. I thought that he should have won the Albert Bartlett if he was ridden more confidently.
Since that race it seems that the stable decided he was a non stayer. Scraped home in his 1st 2 chases over inadequate trips. Then the RSA, and as you correctly say,its worked out to be poor but would defo had won IMO. Then for some unfathomable reason they drop him 20 lenghts out the back at Punchestown. Fell when closing on the leaders,then they decided to send him back over hurdles
Guessing? An understatement IMO. They must think he has some ability to think he could compete in the WH. The dithering over whats best for this horse is so frustrating

I think I read somewhere that they sent him back over hurdles because muscular problem(s) were making it difficult for him to jump fences, I suppose that could conceivably explain his performance in the Cleeve too - in that he might have found even hurdling difficult/painful in that desperate ground.

I take the point about Lord Windermere's form, maybe not the best example  - just think there will be better 33/1 shots than BB next week though, of course, I have been wrong many times before.

Boston Bob holds entries in the Ryanair, the Gold Cup and the World Hurdle and it's too early to rule him out of any race yet. He jumped well at Leopardstown on Sunday and David Casey was happy. He had missed a bit of time however and he needed that spin badly. He'll require another two good bits of work before we decide if we take him and for which race.

Have layed Boston Bob on here purely because they are supplementing On His Own.  Can't be a good sign and Sints comments above don't sound great.  Have still got some on NRNB, so still in the game should he run.

Patrick Mullins on Twitter saying he may go for Gold Cup, subject to late work. Remember, if they want to go for the GN then they need to get him qualified first.

RP are saying Mullins will reveal exclusive Gold Cup news in his column tomorrow. It's either that On His Own will be supplemented or they're running Boston Bob.

Or they've discovered Mikael d'Haguenet is a Gold Cup horse after all and he runs.

they're still guessing and/or something is hurting him and/or he's just not as good as they think he is.
