According to today's Racing Post trainer states 'hasn't had enough experience for a handicap'.

If there was never an intention of giving the horse more experience why make the entry? The horse was certain to be backed for the Handicap as he hadn't looked good enough for the RSA and given that he sluiced up over 2m4f at Aintree he hardly looked like he was crying out for a mile and a half further on what looks increasingly likely to be testing ground. In short the handicap entry has just shuffled money straight into the bookmakers pockets. It seems those that backed him were never going to get a run for their money.

With fingers in so many pies the annual confusion surrounding JP horses is obviously not confined to one yard. Tap Knight for some strange reason has also been given an entry in the Festival Handicap. Again it looks pointless. At present he struggles to finish his races off over 2m4f. Last season they chose the Arkle over the Jewson. Now they suddenly think he is likely to stay 3 miles plus on soft ground? The Byrne Group should be the only realistic target.

Regarding Tap Night, on his last run over 2m 5f at Cheltenham the RP comments read - "In rear, not fluent 10th, headway from omitted 3rd last, stayed on to chase leading duo last but no impression run-in "

Having watched the re-run of that race he looked to be staying on despite not 'being given a hard time' shall we say by McCoy...I'm not so sure it can't stay 3m....but he may well end up in Byrne as you suggest.
