In Paul Jones' book he states that 9/10 arkle winners had won or placed at the festival before. From what I can see however, Captain Chris and Voy Por Ustedes didn't run at the festival before running in their arkle, and Contrband got nowhere near placing at the festival the year before he won his arkle.

Have I missed something or is the stat wrong? Any help much appreciated

The line in Paul's book is "9 of the last 10 winners had either won at Cheltenham or placed at the Festival before".
Contraband & Captain Chris had both won Novice Hurdles at the April meeting so Voy Por is the odd one out.

Also pointed out 13 of the last 14 were rated 142+ over timber and Voy Por was exception there too.

Yeah, but he also says 'purely looking at previous Cheltenham Festival From, although nine  of the last ten winners had won or placed at this meeting before, even more interesting is that five of those nine winners had finished in the first four in a novice hurdle at this meeting the previous season.

It's clearly written to say they had won or placed at the festival! Strange

See what you mean. Just read the section again under 'Previous Course Form'.
"At this meeting" should read "At Cheltenham". Clerical error.

Be lucky.
