Wikipedia says Johnson the only other one riding today to have achieved the feat (Rooster Booster, Flagship Uberalles, Anzum, Looks Like Trouble) - does that mean there are any retired jocks to have done it too?

Geraghty was first to win the four and National. Ruby was second to win all 4 and National when he won on the Fly.
AP has no World Hurdle Dicky no National Pat Taaffe never won either hurdle Dont think Dunwoody won a Champion Chase or World Hurdle Charlie Swan had no Gold Cup Choc has no Gold Cup
Dont think the Stayers was around when Fred Winter was riding.
There are profiles of winningmost jocks here http://www.fatjockey.com/cheltenham-festival/featured_cheltenham_races.php?C...

Didnt go through them all but stayers only started in early 70s so limits the range.
I am sure if you gave AP the choice of stayers or another Champion Hurdle he would take the Champion !

Mares hurdle is not in the same league as the Ryanair, Mares Chase, Arkle or Supreme. Rank races on prize money and it is a long way down the pecking order. Even the Plate handicap is worth more.

In the context of this thread, whatever your opinion of the Mare's Hurdle and regardless of prize money, the fact is it is one of the five championship races, all of which are run at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Ryanair is not a championship race.

I belive the BHA's definition of a "championship race" is a grade 1 not restricted to novices or juveniles, so there are six at the Festival (and plenty more scattered throughout the season).

You are half right strontium, there are six at the festival. The sixth being the Foxhunters which is confined to point-to-pointers and amateur jockeys and which is not a graded race but is the championship race for hunter chasers. There are lots of other open or non-restricted grade 1s throughout the season but they are not championship races.
