We all know that because trainers have multiple horses in multiple races at Cheltenham. Because of this horses end up running in races that they wouldn't be if trained by another stable. What horse running in this years festival do you think is going to end up in the wrong race and what race would you run it in if you owned it? Mine would have to be Cue Card. Has Ryanair winner written all over it. Wont stay the Gold Cup trip and the horse clearly loves bowling along in front and piling the pressure on from a long way out.

bollox, the horse has earnt his shot at it and the going is coming in his favour

would have done another lap at Haydock and was not even blowing at the end

left handed, good to soft, favourite track every chance, there have been worse horses than him win the race

and he already is a Ryan Air winner so no need to do that again

walofs
Report Graeme83 February 21, 2014 6:24 PM GMT
Giggsy mate, i'd send hinm to the gold cup if there is good running ground. If it isn't, i'd definitely send him to the ryanair. On another note, how dare you have a different opinion from Judo. That isn't allowed on here. He will set boy george on you.
Report dj876 February 21, 2014 6:27 PM GMT
Cue Card was flattered in the Betfair Chase with many of the main protagonists under cooked for their seasonal debuts.
He went out like a light in the King George.
Report Graeme83 February 21, 2014 6:37 PM GMT
dj - the king george ground was heavy. The trainer will be thinking that if the ground is reasonably good, that wouldn't suit Silviniaco as much as Kempton did.  After that he will be convincing himself, rightfully so, that anything else is beatable. Like i say, if the ground is good for running he has every right to bowl along and take his chances.
Report penzance February 21, 2014 6:51 PM GMT
Cue Card got the 3 miles at Haydock well visually
albeit with race fitness, looked all over the
winner at Kempton,went 1/10 on i/r.
Will he stay the Gold Cup trip?
I personally think he won't,will see in a few weeks.

Sorry but that is absolute rubbish.
There is only one gold cup and as he is one of the top chasers around he should have a go.
IMO on good ground he will go very close.
He deserves his chance and its not as if the trainer is pulling the wool over the owners eyes.
If all trainers thought like you dessie would never have won a gold cup.
Ridiculous.
Report Magic__Daps February 21, 2014 7:30 PM GMT
Judorick - your comment is ridiculous and child like. It reminds me of when you were calling someone a pr1ck for disagreeing with you last year about Wigan for relegation, we know where that got you...

Yes you may be right about cue card, but I dont think you will be. Well done if you are, but no need for your post in that tone. It may well shock you but people have differing opinions to you, and yours is not always the correct one.
Report buddeliea February 21, 2014 7:45 PM GMT
Cue card did not go out like a light at Kempton,he failed to stay as well as SC in the ground.
I think he will stay on decent ground, yes it is possible he will not stay again as well as others, but he is in the right race imo.
Big player in a decent ground Gold Cup.
Report wellchief February 21, 2014 7:54 PM GMT
Jeez, the OP only said that if he owned the horse, he'd send him to the Ryanair.  Doesn't warrant the whole "walofs" and "ridiculous" comments at all.

Judo, I noticed you went extremely quiet on here after the King George.  I wonder why???
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 21, 2014 7:58 PM GMT
Its all about pace and getting breathers in, lets be honest this years GC is not high class and going to be run at a silly pace.

CC has to go for the gold cup, clearly he would win the RA.
Report Tory February 21, 2014 9:09 PM GMT
The owners may never have a horse as good as cue card again. If rather not win a gold cup knowing I'd tried than not win one having never tried.

I don't think he'll win but he'd def be in the gold cup if he were mine
Report brandyontherocks February 21, 2014 9:21 PM GMT
Well Chief, the op said trainers have lots of horses with multiple entries.
Cue Card does not and is owned by owners who will probably never have a horse of this class.

People slate quevega for not being put in a race to really stretch her ability then knock the Tizzards for having a go at the biggest prize in jump racing.
Report Andymca February 21, 2014 9:33 PM GMT
Although he has no chance in gold cup the owners will want a day out
Report wellchief February 21, 2014 10:05 PM GMT
Brandy, the question was What horse running in this years festival do you think is going to end up in the wrong race and what race would you run it in if you owned it? The bit about multiple entries isn't in the question.

Anyways, I don't want to get drawn in to an argument over the wording of a post.  The OP said if he owned Cue Card, he'd run him in the Ryanair.  It's an opinion, that is perfectly feasible, although unlikely.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it.  I just don't see the point in shouting down other people's opinions on here because that causes some of the good posters to leave.
Report marychain1 February 21, 2014 10:13 PM GMT
I really can't understand people who say he's got no chance in the Gold Cup. Think he's got a cracking chance unless its bottomless.
Report giggsy3444 February 21, 2014 10:49 PM GMT
Come on Lads I only started this post 2 hear people's opinions bout horses they feel are going for the wrong race and if they owned them what races they would run them in. It's great 2 have a bit of banter but let's not have a full on fued! Anybody else have an opinion on any other horses?
Report buddeliea February 22, 2014 7:15 AM GMT
I would have left Oscar Whisky in the Arkle in case the ground is soft on day one,and would have run him in that race, if it were.
Report yeast February 22, 2014 8:07 AM GMT
Got to be Gold Cup. Already been there and done it in the Ryanair. Anyway if it's good ground I can't see it being out of the places, at the very least.
Report wellchief February 22, 2014 8:27 AM GMT
I'd put Ballycasey in the Jewson and Many Clouds in the Festival Handicap Chase off a mark in the low 140's.

I would have also put Balder Succes in the Arkle, he'll only get one chance and he deserves to run.
Report buddeliea February 22, 2014 8:51 AM GMT
Less of that ChiefLaugh, ive got Ballycasey at 25 for the RSA!!!

I would have Balder in the Arkle as well mate, and there is a certain horse trained by Mullins that I would have in the Churdle...best not mention him though!!!
Report wellchief February 22, 2014 9:07 AM GMT
Haha, more chance of me finding the winner of the County Hurdle than Bally running in the Jewson, ie VERY unlikely!

I thought Al Ferof may have been mentioned on thus thread as well. Happy that he's Ryanair bound, but I'm sure plenty will disagree.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 22, 2014 9:25 AM GMT
I want Alf to run in the GC but the 26.0 for ryanair softens the blow
Report buddeliea February 22, 2014 9:33 AM GMT
Forgot about my Al Ferof!! yeh, if I were owner I would give myself a chance of Gold Cup success with him.
Think hes a totally different horse at Cheltenham, and given decent ground I could see him running a big race.
His 2 goes at further have both been away from his favourite track and not on favoured ground. As an owner I would want to judge him with all in his favour.
Don't mind Ryanair once im sure in my mind, right now I aint!!
Report giggsy3444 February 22, 2014 9:34 AM GMT
Buddeliea I think I know the horse u r talking bout and I agree with u 100%. If he was trained by anyone else he'd be a cert 2 run in it. U would think the trainers owned the horses the way some of them get on.

Report giggsy3444 February 22, 2014 8:08 PM GMT
He did look very good again 2day but this years champion looks very strong. This has got to be Hurricanes last year and My Tent or yours will be going chasing next season so it'll prob be a weaker race next year.
Report Steamship February 22, 2014 10:30 PM GMT
I would have put Mendip Express in the RSA I know his last run was bad but he was favourite that day and the horse that won Smad Place is now 2nd fav.

I would run Al Ferof in the Gold Cup and certainly agree with the decision to run Cue Card in it.

I would have all 3 Mullins horses in the Champion (though I did say on another thread that if I owned Annie Power I would run her in the mares) I think Mullins could have the first 3 home.
Report Ballydoyle February 22, 2014 11:00 PM GMT

I'm assuming all those who think Cue Card should run in the Ryanair also thought Imperial Commander should have done so before the 2010 Gold Cup?

Reigning Ryanair champ coming off two failures in the King George and a stellar effort in the Betfair Chase.

The significant differences are that Imperial Commander's King George efforts were much worse than Cue Card's and he was bearen a nose in the Betfair by the great Kauto Star (some would still say the Commander won that race or dead heated at worse).

The other key difference, aside from the fact that he was taking on Kauto and Denman, is that the Commander already had two additional reversals at 3m + over fences, one at Cheltenham as a novice and one at Punchestown (albeit that was a big ask after his Ryanair win).

Everybody just seems to think the Kempton race revolved around Silviniaco Conti needing the race at Haydock (Nicholls had previously described Conti as 'best fresh' - there's a big headline to that effect in his RP stable tour at the beginnig of this season).

It's also a strong possibility that Cue Card is more comfortable and a few lbs better going LH.

Hi Rick,

The point of the thread is where would YOU choose to run the horse and most people think he would win the Ryanair with ease but there is a doubt about the Gold Cup trip given that he has never ran over it
Report ReaseHeath February 23, 2014 4:13 PM GMT
I'd run him in the Gold Cup for the reasons outlined above. Grin

They need to know - plenty of races to be won in future even if he bombs out in Gold Cup, still only 8 so could even come back for Ryanair again next year if it all goes pear shaped.
Report ReaseHeath February 23, 2014 4:21 PM GMT
before Long Run won the Gold Cup in 2011 and after he won the King George, there were plenty who thought he would n't get up the hill on the basis of his effort in the Paddy Power the previous November. Now, as a 9 year old, he's one of the favourites for the Grand National.

Wouldn't run Shutthefrontdoor in the National Hunt Chase. Did it really look like he was crying out for an extra mile and a half when he made his chasing debut round a relative speed track like Aintree? No surprise if he does end up there as it is probably the choice that would infuriate most punters. Something Jonjo and JP are top class at.

Agree about running Many Clouds in the handicap.  I'd also put Black Thunder in the four miler and Un Temps Pour Tout in the Coral Cup instead of the Neptune

Boston Bob has been one if the most poorly trained horses in the last two seasons.

If it was Nicholls training he would've went to RSA with 3/4 runs under belt and won

He would've had 2/3 runs over fences by now with a view to runnin in Gold Cup
Report giggsy3444 March 5, 2014 10:27 AM GMT
I'll be expecting apologies if Boston Bob runs a cracker in the GC. As for Quevega I think his owners in time will look back a feel they should have run in the WH at some point. One of the greatest mares to run at Cheltenham and will not have a G1 race win on her CV.
