What is the single most impressive piece of form in recent months?

I like to compare like for like so comparing bumper form with hurdles form just doesn't do it for me.

Calipto's novice hurdle form from Newbury has worked out very well.

Call me biased but Many Clouds novice chase debut, and 3rd chase run, have both worked out well.

Just what does it for you please, not commenting on the post above....

Like for like form Howdi. Two races stand out for me but I have backed them both so!!

Would have to be Wonderful Charm just going down to Oscar Whisky giving lumps of weight.  Oscar and Taquin have won a couple of races since, so I'd say Wonderful Charm is still a decent price for the Jewson, especially if it dries up.

This thread if we keep it short and sweet , will also help bring us all up to speed and may allow us to become aware of form we were not aware of etc.......

Hurricane Fly beating rampant Triumph winner Our Conor. Everything was there for him to lose, he had a troubled prep, he made a mistake at the last and was headed yet he still found more gears and won despite giving his rival 2lbs to boot. Jezki in the field represents a line to the Supreme form from last season too.

Of all the races run this season, that was the best piece of form given the circumstances. For me anyway.


I also likd Vautour & Ballycasey both beating grade 1 winners in a grade 1 on their latest starts. Smart form that.


What's odd is I can't think of any real standout bit of form in England. I'd say King George but Cue Card needs better ground than that to show his best and Al Ferof is showing the form is nothing special really.

would agree with hurricane fly with the only slight doubt being got a nagging feeling that our conor has been aimed at one race all season(but then so could hurricane fly) and in england possibly irving after the betfair hurdle

Wicklow Brave beating of Western Boy giving him 10lbs looks good in relation to how it made Vautour pull out all the stops at levels.

I find is hilarious that people think Our Conor has been aimed at only one race and Hurricane Fly hasn't. It's utter nonsense. If you are going for a 3rd Champion Hurdle with a horse who probably won't get another chance to win it you are clearly aiming to peak at one race.

I was impressed by O'Faolains Boy yesterday. Can't understand why it was still 20s earlier today for the RSA. So I had some!

CV Byrne you are obsessed with Hurricane Fly man.lol....think if he loses you'll need a trip to A&E!! seriously erm Bobs Worth in Lexus just whizzed away with ease as did Silvi from Cue Card in King George.

Last Instalment in the Lexus. 175 performance IMO. Will beat Bobs Worth if the ground is soft

Forgive me for being a muppet here but are we not talking about races where the form has actually been franked? Nothing from the Last Instalment race has run since. If we are going strictly on the form book then other races looks more favourable in terms of this exercise.

Nothing has run since but if you take First Lieutenant as a yardstick compared to Bobs Worth's performance against him, and particularly remember the very favourable reaction to BW's performance in beating him a length and a half and then compare that to what LI did to him, then it is impressive.

Tidal Bay's an even more reliable yardstick IMO. Has run in some hot handicaps off marks in the 160's and gone very close. Last Instalment's performance has to be 175+ on that basis

Fair enough, soft/heavy, but we'll just have to look at the race in isolation as like you said, nothings come out since, and when something does it may be quicker ground....but agree his performance may well be exaggerated because of the ground....I'll change the thread title a bit....

Last Instalment. It was great to see a horse attacking a race rather than just picking up the pieces. 

Plenty of people want to knock him but I suspect plenty of those who do didn't have enough faith to take the big odds NRNB.

It is still quite a big 'if' about him running in the Gold Cup but if he does I suspect he won't be waving a white flag as readily as those in behind Bob's Worth last year.

There really haven't been that many 'big' performances this year, particularly in the novice divisions, hence the open nature of many of the markets.

It was the best piece of jumping all season by a mile in my book.

Thought Pearl Castle looked very good at Donny last month. Admittedly getting loads of weight from older rivals he opened an 18 length gap over the remainder (finished close enough to each other)from the last home.Visually very impressive and entered there again on Wednesday next in a four year old only contest. Trained by John Quinn so no worries on the trainer score.

vautour would probably be up there, cosy defeat of a twice grade 1 winner.

Sire De Grugu's latest win got to be an honourable mention too, even if the race did fall into his hands. If the ground's soft on CC day, he'll push Spinter Sacre very close.

I agree completely, but your talking about a novice hurdler that isn't trained by Mullins, as such you'll get no one agreeing.

Ballycasey last time out for me. Beating 2 horses who had previously won a Grade 1 in another Grade 1 on only his second run of the season. Still looks big at 5/1 to me.

Fox Norton failing by a Neck to give Royal Irish Hussar 8lbs and made a hash of the last.

RIH went on to win his next 2 races one Listed & one a Grade 2 where he had Guitar Pete just under 4 lengths behind off level weights (Won a Grade 2 & Grade 1 since).

RIH was 3rd to Fox Norton when they met again beaten 16 lengths with Broughton beaten a head in 2nd in receipt of 7lbs.

Broughton won nto by 5 lengths from Clarcam getting 5lbs, Clarcam was 7 lengths behind Guitar Pete off levels.

Only danger to Fox Norton is his stablemate Le Rocher imo but Abbyssial also comes into the mix on his French form.

Funnily enough I've just finished the book The Dirtiest Race In History about that final. Only Calvin Smith who was promoted to third and the Brazilian Da Silva (I think) who finished sixth never tested positive. When interviewed for the book Smith was very scathing about that whole time in sprinting and justifiably in my view feels that he was robbed of being recognised for the great sprinter that he was.

I thought it was Raymond Stewart !

Even though he was second thought it was a good performance by Dodging Bullets in the game spirit on ground that wouldn't suit.

Agree re Zamdy Man and have backed this at 33/1. But, despite contraction in price elsewhere, have noticed his name removed from a number of lists, including on Betfair. Anyone know why this might be?
