Yes, of course I'm not telling you to boycott this essential Cheltenham Festival publication, that would be foolish!
What I am telling you is that I have managed to get NTF readers a tasty £3 discount on the normal price of £14.95 when entering the code NTF in the promotional code box.
This is the 3rd year in a row I have managed to get this discount for NTF readers and as you know I only promote products that I would use myself and am 100% happy with. Paul's book is in it's 15th year of publication, it is industry respected, it is packed full of information...I'm happy to promote it!

he was funny,len lungo was on the panel and talked about 1 of his horses called santa concerto,it was a half brother to aran concerto who was fancied for 1 of the novices,he took the piss right out of old lenny,that was after he turned up half an hour late,dont you get 1 of them books for nowt if you turn up at a preview evening ?

Aren't the trends just the same as in previous years though? So if you bought the book last year, surely that wold tell you all you needed to know?

@tomdeane -- yes, you are right. If you just want the trends (updated with last year's results) you can get them from the Post or Weekender or their preview paper. It's the discussion I welcome, and the chance to ruin my eyesight on the ludicrously small type (and the Racing Post guide is as bad if not worse). Jones is not a bad judge, although since every horse has too many options at this stage (and the book is already at the printers) its value is diminished slightly.
But it is part of the build-up routine, and everyone should buy a copy imo. Jones book, RP book, Timeform black book, Raceform Interactive, at least one preview night, and if there is any money left over, consider placing a bet. |

There are so many Cheltenham guides on the market,I find it difficult to choose.Years ago I used to buy the Marten Julian Bulletin Book and it was a good read and a decent guide.I've only had a brief look in recent years but it seems a shadow of what it used to be(although that could just be me getting older).I have never bought the Paul Jones book although Hill's website had excerpts from it a couple of years ago.If any of you guys were to buy any two of the following publications which would you choose.(a)Paul Jones' book,(b)Marten Julian's bulletin book,(c)RP guide,(d)Mark Howard's update,(e)Timeform-either the Black Book or racecards or HTF extra.

The only festival preview book I would recomend anyone buy is Paul Jones book, he is a very good judge and knows the festival as well as anyone I have read. I would buy it at Wetherbys, and get the Aintree festival guide at the same time (cheaper) as this publication is good also.

If any of you guys were to buy any two of the following publications which would you choose.(a)Paul Jones' book,(b)Marten Julian's bulletin book,(c)RP guide,(d)Mark Howard's update,(e)Timeform-either the Black Book or racecards or HTF extra.
Let's see if we can put them into classes and time order. My main tool is Raceform Interactive and my own analysis derived from it. Jones and the RP book come first. I get both and prefer the former. The RP book has more pictures and is cheaper. Julian and Howard come later, along with the RP Cheltenham Preview Paper (£3-ish); maybe Timeform HTF Extra. I've gone off Julian, but look at Howard and the paper. By this time, though, I've really made up my mind about the background -- contenders and no-hopers -- and although I'll want to keep an open mind till the day, I am not looking for tips. Timeform black book and cards. I'm not a Timeform subscriber, so do not make full use of these. However, I do buy them for last minute reference and a second opinion. |

Paul Jones book is by far the best trends analysis on offer imo,and if you want you can pay £10 for online updates and you get the selections done for you the night before.

I love his guide, buy it every year and often points out some big price winners.
The problem i have is that his guide often narrows the field down to 8 and 1 may win, then a winner is claimed even though you have lost on the race. Seems a mightily free way to make cash. |

Yeh the winners come from trends from the book.
Paul Jones breaks down the trends and does the selections for you in the online updates.this is where the winners what they say they have come from.you will continue to miss winners doing it yourself. ... Cheif Dan George was in the narrowed down field of 8 or 6 the one year and won at 33/1 or 40/1 but it wasn't picked in the online updates and was not included as a winner.If doing it yourself you may well have had it. |
