Nearly every preview I see or read or after any race
where the winner will be aimed at the festival we get the same
old line banded about..'it will be ok on the quicker/better ground
at Cheltenham'...
With this weather showing no signs of stopping I would be amazed
if its not at best soft...
only Nicky Henderson yesterday that its likely to be a slog at cheltenham.

any views??

It doesn't matter if there is an Ark on Prestbury Park two weeks before the event. The only time that matters is those last couple of weeks. If they have a dry two weeks with rising temperatures it will dry our quickly. If it rains to any significant degree then it will be testing.

The same things were said last year... When water tables were bursting and the clerk of the course spent the preceding weeks windsurfing down the hill. Still ended up close to good to soft.

Last year was the wettest winter we'd had in a long while, but it dried up in time. We've had an awful January, but it's certainly no worse than last year.

The problem last year was it hadn't stopped raining since the previous May and ground never had a chance to dry out thoroughly. We saw how it went to sh1te after a heavy shower on the Friday.

The opening day last year was good ground or just slightly slower than good ground.
As stated above, it only needs a week or two to dry out on this track.
