if the ground dries up sufficiently, he must a have a massive chance in the Arkle.
has good hurdle form at chelt and was travelling well before falling in last years CH, (to my cost).
he jumped really well when narrowly beaten by hinterland at sandown and i'm guessing in his only subsequent run at kempton he was unsuited by making his own running.
in what looks like an open field, i can see him travelling well in behind and then outspeeding his rivals up the hill.
very much ground dependant though.

i have already backed backed ror,and think champagne fever is the horse to beat if it runs, but i do like grandouet even though it doesnt look a natural over fences and part of me thinks why would nh run against horses that have already beat it,travelling well when running in ch and falling, got the class if it jumps on the day !

He was my first ante post and has not got a prayer of winning.
How many horses win races at the festival by spending the season running sh1t.

i was jesting, but i dont understand why henderson would want to take the same horses on again, wouldnt totally rule it out

On all known chase form it cant win but i said the same about Captain Chris a few years ago who got stuffed by the likes of Ghizao & Medermit earlier in the season then beat them both in the Arkle. In what looks a weak renewal it wouldnt surprise me if its in the shake up.

although I am with c.fever I need a backup in case willie shocks us all and changes his mind, although disappointing grandout has a touch of class and is with top connections ,been running on ground that don't suit ,hendo still keeps the faith and although he has promised more than he has delivered I wouldn't rule him out ! and he is a big price

massively ground dependant, had a lumpy ew on grandouet in last years champ hurdle, with all the rain we're having can the ground dry out enough in 4 weeks ??
Report cufcno1 February 6, 2014 10:13 AM GMT
when it gets a little warmer it can change in a couple of days,it was snowing and absolutely freezing on the monday last year, but by the neptune the ground had gone against the like of taquin de suiel,it was good ground just about !

last year on the monday we were walking into cheltenham town centre in a blizzard !!!!!!

I'm not convinced he's got the fight for it. How often does he come second?
Report bonnie February 6, 2014 12:31 PM GMT
19 starts, 6 wins, 4 seconds.

will only be seen to full effect on good ground - i just think 16s is great ew price if the ground comes right.

i've been wrong in the past though !!!!!!!

Last won a race in December 2011, Yet to win a chase, How long do we give a horse before the excuses run dry.
Jumped awful on debut, Dodging Bullets made him look ordinary, Dogged it against Hinterland.
Having class is one thing, It's winning that counts and he ain't no winner come March.

Not sure how you can say Grandouet has been running ''****'' Jasey. Unseated on debut when admittedly he would have finished 2nd only but his run after that was decent. With the speed he has it'll take time to adapt to fences and I say that as not even backed him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him improve over time.

The only way Grandouet could win an Arkle is if they transferred it to Crufts and he was the only runner. Even then I would need odds against
Report jasey February 6, 2014 3:11 PM GMT
Yeh Sint you are right  i am being a bit harsh on the horse.
Will Hendo even send him to the arkle,he could end up in the grand annual instead.
Report GAZO February 6, 2014 5:48 PM GMT
its difficult to see him winning on all his chase form but if it did turn up good ground he wouldnt be the worst outsider running at cheltenham
Report sintonian February 6, 2014 7:05 PM GMT
you could be right, may go for a handicap given how things have worked out for him.

Don't believe Grandouet can win any race at the Festival unless he can do it on the bridle. Appears a bit soft to me and not equipped to win a war up the hill.
Report bonnie February 6, 2014 9:01 PM GMT
destroyed a peak form overturn who went on to finish second to rock on ruby in that seasons champ hurdle.

Very good BD.

Would be a grave error in judgement on NH's part to declare it for any chase at the Festival, no natural fluency to its fencing and in the Arkle especially would be found wanting.
