simonsig is high in the betting for the ryanaire chase and connections could go that route with a horse who has class and untapped potential ,he has been on the easy list and will not reapear untill the new year but connections could be mighty tempted to go the gold cup route , 2 wins in 2 years at the festival , and still has room for masses of improvement and is a massive price on here ,been backing him on here every week and after bobs worths run in yesterdays betfair he has shown vulnerability and as a horse who seems to do things the hard way he has had a few battles and whatever way you look at it his betfair chase win was not ideal ,, ,connections of simonsig may well have their eyes on the gold cup and simonsig could well improve for a step up in trip and he has not shown his hand yet still some 60s left on here and bobs worth dont look as invincible as he did before the betfair . Would be folly to go Gold Cup route this season, with a horse with so little experience of jumping fences, and who won the Arkle despite his jumping. Bobs Worth is the real stayer who excels at Cheltenham, and will be cherry ripe in March. Simonsig, if over his injury problems, should be given this year to learn a bit more about the game, be brought along slowly, learn to settle, maybe ultimately take in the Ryanair. Then, next season, find out if he stays, and then plan the season accordingly.
jocci with his splint trouble and light campaign over hurdles and fences he has obviously had his problems and connections may feel it worth taking the bull by the horns this season ,he is addmitedly more likely to go for the ryanaire if he can be kept sound but the gold cup field has a much more open feel about it after recent results and as dynaste and harry topper have shown last seasons novices may not be as poor as some thought and he would be up there with the best of them!.
bjg yeah he probably would not get the trip if he raced as freely as he did in the arkle , but i would have thought hendo , gerahty and possibly ,briesner would have worked on that ,didnt look to be stopping in the neptune ! ,o.k another 5 + furlongs to go in the gold cup but worth a try imo,and as the betting shows its an open gold cup at around 5s the fav .
a nice intro over 2.4m in the new year then step him up in trip and see how it goes .
