Will never know mate, but imo would have beaten ROR and HF last 2 years.
Really think he was the real deal.
So Sad when that happens to horses with so much potential.

Remember meeting him at his trainers open day, right character in his box, took me bl00dy ages to get a decent photo of him, would walk up to the front and I would get my camera ready and then he would walk back before I could snap away, kept doing it for ages, was funny though and got quiet attached to him to be honest. Got there in the end though, so at least I have some nice photos in my collection.

Very sad but at least he's in one piece. Michael Buckley can only wonder what might have been when he looks at the subsequent exploits of the other 3 in the first 4 home in AF's Supreme.....classy bunch. Jumping is a tough game, no doubt about it.

The best Supreme ever run. Always thought SS was a Champion Hurdler in waiting. He really could have been anything. At least he's having a happy retirement though Love

Very very sad news today. Echo all the points above, and was a Champion Hurdle winner in waiting, and agree with Budd at the very top - I would have been confident in him beating RoR and HF in the next years Champion Hurdle. I even got on him at 20/1 for it straight after the Supreme and Champion Hurdle had finished on the Tuesday.

Don't think I recall a horse having such bad luck as this one in recent years.

RIP fella.

Top-class novice hurdler Spirit Son has died at the age of eight at the Greatwood charity centre near Marlborough.

Nicky Henderson trained the Michael Buckley-owned gelding to win three of his four starts in Britain, capped by a 13-length defeat of Cue Card at Aintree.

He also finished second to Al Ferof in the 2011 Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Henderson had hoped Spirit Son could be a live Champion Hurdle horse but he first suffered from a tendon problem and later required surgery to a complicated and potentially life-threatening fracture of his neck.

Helen Yeadon, Greatwood's founder, said: "It's very sad. He came to Greatwood about a year ago and he was a sweet horse who had become very popular with the staff and people who came to visit.

"He was always quite uncoordinated but sadly his coordination had deteriorated and we had to make the decision.

"I've spoken to Nicky and Michael, and it's a sad day for all of us.

"He was obviously a very good racehorse and he deserved a longer time here as he had settled in so well."

Absolutely gutted he could not have a long and happy life after his injury.

Life can be so cruel.
