That was likeable. If he stays in one piece, he should be better than a handicapper over 3miles. It's a pitty he's not trained by someone who is guaranteed to aim the big ones at the big ones. Nevertheless, 33 and 25 taken. He has the profile.

Certainly, love chasers by accordian.

Be interesting if we knew what route the horse will be taking.
Report bigben October 26, 2013 7:56 PM BST
It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up on a nice mark for the old WH Chase on the Tuesday.
Report ReaseHeath October 26, 2013 8:19 PM BST
was there today and not had chance to see a replay yet but my overriding impression was that the runner up put in some fabulous leaps, reminded me of Albertas Run around there - think he has a future too.

Two good looking Novice Chases today at Chepstow & Aintree, I thought.  Just how good, we'll see!

Just A Par lost little in defeat at Chepstow (jumping impressed this uneducated eye). Shotgun Paddy jumped super & won magnificently, yet a sneaking doubt remains maintaining his form, through the winter. Emma Lavelle, is not renowned for winners during the darkest months.

The Liverpool race was most pleasing for it's type. I expect all four runners to win races over fences. Shutthefrontdoor was ridden confidently by McCoy & jumped very well, but arguably only won through virtue of receiving 5lb's from the equally admirable Beeves.

sonko - agree
ben- lol that's the concern
rease - he did, DM likes him
saxon - i'm not too bothered about the 5 pounds.

I'd say that performance was honest enough to keep me interested.
Report deepingfox November 16, 2013 10:52 PM GMT
Agree Graeme83,
He looked a bit green at bottom of the hill, swayed about a bit, when AP tried to gather him up, and prob lost enough momentum to stop him nicking it on the line, having lobbed around out the back all race.

I'm not precious about lining up at the Festival with a line of 1111111's that season, I am happy for my choices to have had a test or two, and for the connections to have learned from narrow defeats how to ride the horses on the big day.

If you keep winning on the way to March, maybe connections could get complacent.

Really happy with today as an RSA trial.
Report Glossy November 16, 2013 11:05 PM GMT
Didn't look suited to the testing run in. Another horse who will stay but is better on a flat track. We haven't seen the RSA winner there.
Report deepingfox November 16, 2013 11:11 PM GMT
Could be right, Glossy, but I like Jonjo's silks on my side at the Festival (often in the handicaps) and I wouldn't cross this one of the list yet, he performed very well there this March when 4th as a Novice in the Pertemps.

Im happy that the stable can learn from this, and work out a plan to improve, Im sure the horse has plenty of improvement in him.
Report Glossy November 16, 2013 11:28 PM GMT
He did well in the Pertemps but was campaigned accordingly and ran off a very generous mark as a result. Level weights against the best staying chasers in the business is an altogether different matter. I could be wrong of course, I certainly was today on several counts - my wallet has never felt so light!

really do not like the breeding on this one, a sire I dislike intensely with many progeny carrying the squiggle / need headgear
Report Glossy November 17, 2013 12:12 AM GMT
Really? Whilst not a top, top class sire; he's produced some very good, straight forward horses on the whole. Not sure there's too much to 'intensely dislike' here?

Jumped and looked good on the first circuit but was ultimately disappointing and beaten a long way today.

My thoughts exactly mushroom.

2 good looks around cheltenham and the experience of a festival handicap in the hurdle last year.

Looks to have the typical "McManus " profile.

Nice to see this lad get his head past first in a big race.

New season, and this fella is in my thoughts. My few quid has been thinking march more than any other month, but we will see what happens. It's a good while away as things are.
Report Graeme83 February 1, 2015 9:05 PM GMT
Hope he gets there for the irish race. Lets see what happens.

any news graham .........regarding the drift ?
Report Graeme83 February 1, 2015 9:56 PM GMT
None foyle mate. Its all guessing games. Jonjo makes mullins look like 24 hour news.
Report SoYouThink February 1, 2015 10:22 PM GMT
Info is scarce regarding all Jonjo''s top horses: Shutthefrontdoor, Taquin Du Seuil, Holywell, More of That, John's Spirit.

I know he has a good record when it comes to the Festival but personally speaking, I think you'd be mad to back any of his until at least we get an update. The lack of an update about any of the above is a concern.

My guess is they probably all won't make it to Cheltenham.
Report Graeme83 February 1, 2015 10:37 PM GMT
Fair play syt. Ante posts aint easy. Its a risk we run. Im out of cash, so if they all miss, it is what it is.
Report SoYouThink February 1, 2015 10:42 PM GMT
It is a risk and it certainly ain't easy Graeme !! My post wasn't aimed directly at the possibility that Shutthefrontdoor could win the Gold Cup, more a general point. On a lot of threads, I have seen the Jonjo will have them right for Cheltenham line. Probably a view I'd be opposing at the minute with the lack of info.
Report Graeme83 February 1, 2015 10:55 PM GMT
I salute your opinion syt. Having them turn up for handicaps is one thing, but big races is another matter. Whatever happens, happens. Salute once more.
Report Graeme83 February 3, 2015 5:12 PM GMT
Theyre saying hes a couple of weeks behind schedule. They said they dunno if theres a race out there for him before the festival.  I wouldn't put any dough on this one getting there. National at best.
