A word of caution too I should add. PFN's best novice chasers in the past couple of seasons have skipped the RSA, Silviniaco Conti & Rocky Creek, and gone to Aintree instead.

Ive a little bit on at 33's but was surprised he was that short tbh, even if the profile is bang on, as you say. Schools beautifully though Hopefully be out first week of November.

Sonofvic won easily at Exeter today, always been well thought of and always going to make a chaser. Jumped very nicely from what I saw and despatched the decent Kentford Grey Lady with little fuss. Could be a likely RSA type.

Just A Par has an entry at Chepstow for Saturday in a Novice Chase against some reasonable horses like Beeves and Arthurian Legend. Should be interesting.

Followed Sonofvic over a cliff last season and was pleasantly surprised he started at 13/8 when I'd backed him at 11/10 today. Decent performance on debut, but will be surprised if he's up to the RSA. Hope he can fulfill his potential over fences though, always looked a chasing type as you say.

Glossy, PFN also has Benvolio entered in the race who won his last two races over hurdles on Soft ground so we'll have to see if J A P runs as the trainer did say he will start out at one of the bigger tracks, so I assume he means Newbury or Cheltenham.

I missed today's race as I was watching the Arsenal game but apparently he was no match for the winner. He did jump well though. PFN's has had several decent types beaten on their chase debuts around Chepstow before such as Beshabar and Silviniaco. But I don't want to be making excuses this early!

Get that impression too BJG. Expect he'll improve a good bit as he is quite lightly raced under rules but i'll try and watch it later.

Just back from Chepstow. Safe to say that Mr Nicholls did not look a happy man in the trainers area today.

I won't be losing faith just yet. Emma Lavelle seems to have her runners fit and ready to go. As mentioned previously, PFN has had a few decent ones beaten at this time of year at Chepstow. Rocky Creek is another horse who got beaten on his Chase debut too. He'll need to make a big jump forwards on his next run.

The only positive is that all of Nicholls' emptied quickly at around the same point today. There must be something up with the yard. Mr Nicholls may not have the ammunition of a few years ago but he still knows when a horse has the ability to do well in good company.

Horse may not be as good as hoped, we'll have to see. What amazes is the amount of people writing off PFN. Not just on here but it's all over twitter too. Talk about short-termism!!!

Just a Par is just like Ceasar Milan.  Over paid the price for these 2 horses.  They keep thinking they're going to unearth another Denman with P2p's from Ireland.  Stable maybe poorly but J A P didn't jump too good and looked very slow

I thought he jumped well, stayed on and heavily eased , didnt empty in my book. Just beaten by a better horse on the day. Dont forget Rev it up finished 2nd in this race last year but was beaten miles this year. Not a fan of J ap as anyone could had finished 2nd to AFC at aintree. Just think everyone expects too much of every PN horses given his history.

travelled and jumped the best, but blew up,probably short of RSA grade but can see it staying forever and therefore the 4 miler would be a big possible.

Wonderful Charm will not be RSA bound. This market will only be shaken up when African Gold puts them all to the sword next weekend.

Glossy - why are you so clear Wonderful Charm wont run in the RSA. He ran in the World Hurdle in March as a 5 YO and his first two runs over fences have been 2m6 and 2m5. Looks all ends up like an RSA campaign to me. And yes that is my pocket taking hence my interest in your statement.

Only reason he won't go to Cheltenham Festival is if they wish to keep him to flat tracks. His next race is the Feltham at Kempton. They could also opt for the Jewson which is now a Grade 1 chase this year. Tbh, i've backed him as a saver more than anything else.

Think we saw a good RSA candidate in Ireland yesterday,and available at much bigger odds!!

No inside info. Just a strong hunch he may be Jewson bound. I could be completely wide of the mark of course!

For example, Nicholls has said that his ideal trip is 2m5f at a flat track. That being the case, I'd be surprised if he thinks he could get any benefit from being upped in trip at a testing track like Cheltenham.

Thanks for feedback. I like the horse a lot and based on this I am going to get on him for Jewson too and switch my RSA focus to Don Cossack.......please dont tell me Gordon Elliot thinks he would be best at 2m4 going right handed on a flat track !

Haha. Don Cossack is an impressive horse but I've already nailed my colours to the post with African Gold for the RSA. Monster in the making IMO.

Road to Riches Sint,was thoroughly impressed with his jumping and will be better I feel over a tad further than the distance yesterday.
If you aint seen it mate,take a look,be interested in another opinion. Still available at 40 odd on here.

Ah yes see that one. I was impressed too. Trainer is a bit of negative for me as his horses tend to go off the boil after Xmas but he did say that horse needs to have breaks between his races and is best fresh.

Noel Meade's Road To Riches (11/4) made a decent impression when doing it from the front in the Naas Annual Membership Beginners Chase.

Meade said: "I was worried after the way he finished up last season and we've changed things a bit. The main thing is I'm trying to keep him fresh and you probably won't see him too often.

Entered for the Grade2 at Newbury next weekend. It actually looks quite a weak race, 7 entries, by usual standards.

getting a little concerned he may not go 3m this season,his next entries are 2 and a half, may need to cover with the Jewson nrfb.

Bobsworth won the same race Budde before winning the RSA. I think Denman did too. Basically, many RSA horses run/win over 20f during their season.

yep, very impressed with that, strangely he actually travelled better on his first run but badly blew up, he looks a right old galloper, just a question as to whether he's classy enough I suppose.

Never going better than at the end of the race. Green as grass still. Third Intention a fair yardstick. Some cause for optimism for RSA punters there.

If he targets the race, when asked he sais maybe and then started going on about the hennessy last year, he's got a strong hand in the staying novice chaser division too.

Basically, anything that ran on the Chepstow card back in October trained by PFN was effectively schooling in public. Easter Day, who I backed that day, went out like a light. Today he hacked up in the Novice handicap and to quote the commentator at the end of the race ''He looks like he has improved and has been well backed to do so''.

Runner-up behind At Fishers Cross in a Grade One novice hurdle at Aintree in the spring, the Paul Nicholls-trained Just A Par was beaten into second by Shotgun Paddy when odds-on for his chasing debut at Chepstow in late October.

Sent off the 5/4 favourite to go one place better in this Grade Two contest, the six-year-old disputed the running from the start under Daryl Jacob but was briefly headed by Ardkilly Witness exiting the back straight.

He was soon back on terms, however, and there were virtually four in line jumping the first fence in the home straight.

Third Intention emerged as the only serious threat to Just A Par between the final two fences, but was eventually shaken off, with the market-leader coming home 14 lengths clear, as Nicholls continued his domination of this event.

Sky Bet cut the winner from 20/1 to 14/1 for the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Nicholls said: "He's still as green as grass and you'd hope in a year's time he might be back here for the Hennessy.

"He did get beaten at Chepstow, but he had a clear round and got that in the bank.

"I don't think he's a Feltham horse, I could see him coming back here on Aon Chase day, and you'd definitely be thinking about the RSA because he was bought to be a nice staying chaser - next year's Hennessy is already half in my mind."

Duffy, re avoiding the RSA to save his handicap mark.. the handicapper ain't stupid or lenient. Rocky Creek for example is only rated 3lb lower than this years RSA winner, and the RSA is actually a good pointer to the race anyway.

Lot better,still very green but no doubt an improver that will keep improving as the season goes.
Might be a tad concerned as a backer that they are talking next season already which tells me they are thinking he may not reach top novice level this season,especially after hearing what Nicholls said after.
Still nowt wrong with having him at decent odds for the RSA imo.

Sticking my RSA 25/1 betting slip back together with tape as we speak. Loved how he got back on the bridle and looked classy in patches, more to come.

Always makes sense to give these novices another chance,and this one certainly deserved another go, very green again today,and at some point hes gonna make a real goodun imo.

He'll be 7 next March which is usually a good age for an RSA horse. But you can see he still needs to mature.

20/1 for the RSA after yesterday's performance looks like very good value to me.

He looks a big baby, you'd think there'd be loads of improvement to come on what is already a very decent level of form. With the trainer already talking in terms of AON, RSA & Hennessey I've had to include him in my Festival 'portfolio' - which is a lot fuller than it usually is at this stage of the season.

He runs Wonderful Charm today, who looks just as good, if not better, so I had a saving bet at 16/1 after he won the Grade 2 at Wincanton. He is already rated 151. But i've no idea if he'll go to Cheltenham, he might be an Aintree type.

Hi Sint, I was particularly encouraged when PFN said that Just A Par wouldn't be a "Feltham type". Given the record of Feltham winners in the RSA, that means to me that he's an "RSA type".

PN said somethin a few weeks back about keeping WC to flat tracks!

Impressed with wonderful charm today, i know he didnt beat much but he went like a rocket after last and won with tons in hand.

Jumping was a bit iffy at times I thought,won well though.

Thought he mostly looked very nimble over his fences myself. Only one bad jump that I can remember. Was impressed with him myself.

FWIW Owner said after the race, that he wants to run Wonderful charm in The Jewson

I would certainly see Just A Par as the RSA horse among the 3 that won ran at Newbury. There was a moment on the final turn when he looked short of pace but once they reached the next fence he always looked in charge. Her is big, still backward, and a bit lazy so I think a faster pace and a lead would improve him a lot from that run. My only reservation would be the nature of the Cheltenham track as he could be outpaced and short of room down the hill.

Apart from one fence, he jumped really well and kept on galloping all the way to the line.  I turned on oddschecker expecting to see about 16/1 for the RSA, yet you can get 33's?

I know the Feltham winners record in the RSA is poor, but it isn't the Feltham anymore, its the Kauto Star Chase so we can scrap that stat

He won nicely. And certainly you can say 33/1 is too big for a Grade 1 winner. But I think you can pick plenty of holes in that form. My Just A Par bet is certainly down the **** pipe.

just a par has had a breathing op and will go for the rsa nh chase .....paul nicholls ,bit of good news for you  sint !

He is on my radar as a possible player at a price having had the op, but it would be nice to know which way he's going. My gut says he'd be better off in the NH. Looks a bit of a boat to me, albeit a very useful one.

Agree with that, I'd backed him for the RSA which looks like it's gone now, particularly as Nicholls is almost certainly running Sam Winner in that.

It seems to me therefore that he will aim **** at the 4 miler so I've had a nibble on here at 21.
