That's it in a nutshell though isn't it, where are they going to go with him, still wouldn't want him at all over 20f at anywhere other than Aintree, so what's there for him?

Have to agree,Think he'd have won the Arkle if given the chance last season in much better fashion than the constantly snatching at and losing lengths at everyfence Simonsig but what do i know.

Think SAME DIFFERANCE will have a good season reminds of synchronized this horse and could end up in the gold cup although at the moment im all over him for the NATIONAL

proberly will come up against Simonsig proberly cue card as well but i think CC is a cracking horse and @ around the 16/1 mark is well worth a bet as hes 5 or 6 on the day should as i expect him to turn up and @ worst will place

I am a fan of Captain Conan but not over 20f @ Cheltenham. He was easily beaten in a relatively weak Jewson by Benefficient plus others and Benefficient is available at 20/1. Then add in Cue Card, Simonsig and Felemenstar and 2014 Ryanair is a top class race way stronger than 2013 Jewson. And this assumes Dynaste and First Lieutenant will go Gold Cup route. If I was going to have an AP on Captain Conan it would be for the Queen Mother where he is available at 20/1 and where I reckon he is easily the 2nd best horse likely to turn up so getting 5/1 a place and, heaven forbid, anything go wrong with Sprinter Sacre then he has a great win chance..............unless of course they then switch Simonsig to Queen Mother.

Hayling billy couldn't agree more..... Captain Conan looked a non stayer in the jewson over 2 mile 4 I can't see him staying the longer 2 mile 5 in the Ryanair which is likely to have a much stronger field.... NH will surely send him to the queen mother to nail the forecast and still have a favourites chance of the win if god forbids anything happens to the aeroplane!!!

At Sandown I'm not sure if I've ever seen a horse, (certainly not over 20f) finish so tired and manage to scramble home in front, he's a good horse to come back from that effort, not against the very best over that far though.

Ditto. Still all abut the flat for me until Champions Day. Then I switch my Raceform Interactive subscription to the jumps and between then and my first bet in the Paddy Power meeting, it's all about re-familiarising myself with the jumpers

Alright guys, hope you have all had a good summer.

Thought it was time to get back on here after reading that Sizing Europe is back next week :-)

On to this thread, one that is underestimated and is my dark horse for the year is Sizing Rio, of Henry de Bromhead.  He started off very promising in novice hurdles, but was ultimately found out at the highest level.

However, I think chasing will always be this guys game, as he is huge and has loads of scope.  I think he'll improve no end for fences, and he has already won a novice chase at the back end of last year.

I don't think he'll have the toe for the Arkle, and he's not even in the betting for the Jewson yet, but he is my dark horse for the year.

Don't know if he is even in training but Pearl Swan is a horse that could still be top class. He fell at the last in the Triumph when looking sure to be placed if not win. He only ran twice last season, once second in an AW bumper and then ran poorly in a high class handicap hurdle. If he comes back to his 4yo form he could win a big handicap or two.
