You heard it here first.

Can see it following a similar path to Kauto. After it hoses up in the King George this December, the clamour to go for the big one will prove irresistable!

I reckon he could win from 6f to 4m4f.

Just loved the way BG pushed him to the 2nd last and flew it, then he sat still at the last so asking for a safe one and SS knew. BG has been one of the top 3 jockeys around for the last decade and he deserves it imo.

Match made in heaven.

His head did nod towards the end so i think he is better at less than 2m5f but they should try the king george after the tingle.

no, I didn;t hear it here first, in fact I raised the question after the Arkle myself

certainly think he can do it if they want though - prolly 2015 more likely?

although if he were to hack up in his usual style in the King George they would have the option

how exciting is this horse? best I've seen for sure

Yes judo, the "heard it here first" comment was hyperbole really.

I'm convinced it should happen though. Surely if it wins the KG in December they will have no option but to run it in the Gold Cup.

As we all know, it's bred to stay 3m and the freakishly high cruising speed should mean it would have no bother seeing out the trip. It's an absolutely mouthwatering prospect anyway.

the obstacle is stable politics

they already have bobs worth and long run

not to mention simonsig...

lots of issues, specially with them all having different owners

well I remember several loud mouths calling me all sorts of names a year ago when I was saying 'every option is open'

then you get some mugs going 'he will only ever be a 2 miler, you mug'

I was with you judo when you were asking for Sprinter to be campaigned over further.

Like you say, the biggest problem will be the number of options that Henderson has in the race. I get the feeling that his heart holds a place very special for SS though and that he will run it in any race that he sees fit, no matter what else he has in it.

yup glossy

everything else make way for the Monster basically

I really want to know what he can do

felt the same about Frankel and felt cheated that their primary objective was stud value not racecourse performance

JR - I was reading an old thread earlier today after seeing 'The Monster' strut his stuff...it was just after The Tingle Creek, and you might find it an interesting read. I couldn't find the threads BEFORE that race and if you can, post a link.

Thanks for the link N-G, there was some comments post-Arkle but no specific threads I dont think

as I said back then there is a very broad spectrum of possibilities and no doubt everything will be discussed

I would think the King George is under discussion for sure and a re-match with Cue Card who will try and front run I think

I remember that beautiful day . April 23rd-2006 when I first held the monster in my hands, i said to the vet- "bloody hell, they should aim this beast at a bumper at Ascot on 20 Feb 2010- I knew right there and then he could be something special, The way e ate his first snack of hay made me say, "you know something, there is a NHF race at Ayr sometime around 17 April, just around his 4th birthday that we should aim for, and from there take on the world and ultimatley win the Arkle, Champion Chase and 7 Gold Cups" so, sorry boys, I was ACTUALLY the first person to say he should go on and flourish Tongue OutTongue Out - Hope this helps... your welcome.

I remember a stable hand watching some randy stallion giving a past olympic javelin medal winner a right old seeing too once upon a time, the stable hand was so impressed with the portion administered that she was heard to say, "my god, whatever that produces is sure to win a gold cup"....and no judo, you weren't the bloody stable hand!!!!

Barry Geraghty has always said that he doesn't want to see him run at distances over 2.5 miles. He'll stick with the Queen Mum at Cheltenham.

We are asking him to 6 furlongs more not 600

On the contrary. You're asking him to run ten and a half furlongs more than he has in a chase at Cheltenham. Granted Geraghty doesn't think he wants to go more than the two and a half at Aintree but stamina wise that is a world away from a gold cup or indeed two and a half at Cheltenham..

I think the politics in the yard will determine that he runs in the QMCC, as it removes a headache for Hendo and BJG. There are no other options for Bobs Worth or Long Run than the GC and I suspect they will also be stepping Simonsig up in trip.

Yeah he'd be the first horse ever to get 2 and a half round Aintree easy but not get 3m 2f round CheltenhamShocked

No one knows whether he will stay 3m2f at Cheltenham , but it does seem that his jockey is quiet adamant he wont.
That will do for me, although having said that,Bobsworth probably has something to do with that.
Anyway nowt wrong with winning the QM every year.

Personally I would say hes probably a 2 miler that stays a bit further, and 3m2 at Cheltenham would be too far for him, but as I said, none of us know for sure.

There's no need to get so upset about it. I'm merely stating a fact not seeking to be smart and I think the point is very relevant to his likelihood of staying at Cheltenham. He got two and a half at Aintree but Geraghty said that's as far as he thought he wanted. The horse presumably gave him some indication this was the case and he was hardly sprinting away from Cue Card on the run to the line.

People underestimate the amount of stamina needed for both the King George & Gold Cup. We have seen v recently on the flat how much difference an extra 4 furlongs makes at the top level. Kauto Star was winning over 2 miles as a young horse just because he had so much class. He would never have dominated the division like Sprinter has and imo wouldn't have had nearly enough pace later in his career. 2 m 4 at Aintree on spring ground is much closer to the stamina test of a Queen Mother than a King George for me & quick glance at recent winners of the race there have been far more QM  than KG/GC horses prevailing.
It's inevitable when a horse comes along as good as this people will think he can win any race going but I'm certain his best trip will be 2 miles. You have to look at what makes the horse so good. His high cruising speed, massive engine, his athletic and bold jumping but most of all the horses mentality. His will to meet fences at such a pace along with the brains to sort himself if he meets one wrong is what has always set him apart from other horses. The way he takes off outside the wing without giving anyone a moment of a worry if he will make it or not. The way he lands running and strides away from a fence. It all becomes more and more worthless as you step up in trip. You would either have to teach him not to do the things that make him so good or you would have to front run for 3 miles 2f and probably run him into the ground.

Fair enough. It wasn't meant to be but my point remains however you read it. So far he's only run over 2 miles at Cheltenham.
