Even amongst the nutters on the Horse Racing forum. I'm flabbergasted. Jonhson lined him up like he was going to test the possible non stayers stamina. The only logical option (or so I thought) and then he allowed the horse to pull for its head to go faster for the first few furlongs because he was insistent on allowing the slow coach Bog Warrior to saunter past at a funereal pace and maintain that till at least half way.

25 seconds slower than The Pertemps and the first two were definitely amongst the possible non stayers and even Smad Place had some doubts about getting up the hill.

Was Johnson riding to instructions?

If so why were they different from when he went off at a real clip when he won the Long Walk with his head in his chest and even when he went a decent pace in The Cleeve with Knockara?

Computer probs sorry.Meant to say Johnston def did not try to test the possible non stayers-most of the field-as Reve was outpaced a long way out then stayed on to be 3rd half way up the run in.There were roumors that Reve was not training well so if true was Johnston trying to save a bit????Doubt we will ever know but dont think we got a proper run for our dosh.

It goes on good, for all good work deckie had done with this horse was undone at the start, i know it probably would be better on heavy ground but he finished 2nd on good in the neptune.

And after that he went to Punchestown and won over a furlong shorter on good ground. The only thing one can ask of any jockey is that he gives his horse its best chance. The field was full of very good two and a half milers. Test them. The horse may be beaten. He will be beaten at this level by horses of that class if he allows it essentially to be turned into a speed contest. At least Oscar Whiskey ran like a drain. If you backed that and did your dough then you won't be pulling your hair out.

Must admit i backed RDS and i was surprised he didnt force the pace.Shame as he was staying on as we knew he would at the death.

We knew indeed. Shouldn't a man who has spent a lifetime around horses who is supposedly one of the best at his trade also have known after bashing the shiit out of them in the Long Walk using forcing tactics?

If I have much more Woodford Reserve to drown my sorrows I'm going to be fighting with the neighbours and I live in the middle of nowhere. Those sheep are going to take a pounding. Laugh

The British stayers bar Big Bucks are useless.

His jumping was terrible today and cost him rather than any tactics imho
