easy the 2 four year old races, let em run but I'm not stupid enough to trust them. Always liked the triumph but that poxy fred winter is a mine field.

Agreed Howdi...even when I was a form-fiend I just couldn't seem to make head or tail of it!
They've all won crawls on heavy ground so a decent pace & faster surface makes the form redundant. All is determined by the odds to me, so I back all the unbeaten longshots...I had a decent touch on Cue Card a few years back  Until I started using Betfair, there were only about a handful of bumpers a season I'd even have a bet in! |

not had the greatest luck in the bumper recently but do remember seeing Mark Pitman being interviewed in 99 on either the eve or day of the race he wouldn't have it that his 2 horses wouldn't be in the shake up so i backed them both blind ew Monsignor won at 50/1 and Canasta was third at 25/1 RESULT!
sometimes its not what they say its how they say it! a very good friend of mine read the tizzard stable tour in the december before cue card won his bumper and commited to backing him no matter what the stats said about 4yo etc etc he had a very healthy return on the tote at about 66/1 ish. admittedly its probably not a race to have your nap given the uncertainty but no harm having an interest IMO. |

 That's sacrilege squire!  I've had some smashing winners of that including Silver Jaro at 50/1 & Thumbs Up swinging along under Dunwoody at 16/1  I also backed Rooster Booster (9/1) & Pedrobob (14/1) so it's one of the classic 'getting out stakes' as I see it...at least it used to be before the gobshítes started c0cking around with the schedule. AND last year I backed three horses in the race...2nd, 3rd & 4th forgetting about Alderwood, despite starting a thread about just how tenderly he was handled at Leopardstown the month before which I completely forgot about on the day!  |

Alderwood! You see you could have had the winner with my 'something Irish and hope for the best' strategy.
 2mile handicap hurdles aren't that friendly to me at the best of times but at Cheltenham when every trainer thinks he's got 7lbs in hand it's just ridiculous trying to wade through it all. I usually just back a hype job or buzz horse for the sake of having a bet in the race. Paid off with Final Approach one year but that's it! I'm not being sarcastic here, with your record in the race I'll be looking out for your thoughts nearer the time and maybe I'll learn something! Hope the winners continue for you.  |

Tucho - I usually back two in a race at the Festival (one around 12/1 and another about 33/1) but depending on the prices and now with the convenience to trade on Betfair, nowadays I'm often on 5 or 6 in a big field of handicappers, so don't think I'm some genius that does it regularly...I'm just a chancer that hopes for the best at big odds!
Nevertheless, I had only 3 in the County Hurdle and it was particularly galling to have completely overlooked Alderwood (after making a note of his previous run) when my tribe filled the next three places...at the prices they were, I should've been on the permed tricast!  Rooster Booster was the finale a few years back at a Festival that absolutely stunk for me, and he got it all back in the 'getting out stakes'...something that's very rarely happened for me over the last 30+ years If you're after a longshot...have a small dabble on Hey Big Spender wherever he goes (two entries, 33/1 & 25/1) as he's massive value off a generous handicap mark. |

I increasingly feel like I wish I adhered to the answer being none of them!
Seems to me to be increasingly true that the best form is the previous year's festival form. Cheltenham dominates the season so much now, that the weeks/months leading up to it consist of a succession of inconsequential and/or inconclusive trials that have little or nothing in common with the races at the festival: small fields, muddling pace, heavy going, etc., added to which you have trainers understandably going to extreme lengths to keep their horses under the radar or unexposed. Is it just me that questions the value of the form book when so many once raced (usually in a low grade event) french-breds duly trots up in a handicap. Honestly, it sometimes feels like I might be better off studying the form for the Brocklesby! Rant over... |

Every year I study all the entries for the Coral in detail. That way you get to know the form of every hurdler in Britain and Ireland.

I have a glance at all form tbh. Some is so well known I havent bothered like the Queen Mother. Bumper is ridiculous - but I like a previous big field winner so I have to look.

The mares race. Really doesn't interest me. Even if Quevega gets beat still won't bother me that I didn't pick it apart.
I quite like the Cross Country, love standing inside the course watching it from there. Not much of a betting race mind but like it nonetheless. |
