can we get some info on a daily basis from people who actually live or are in Cheltenham from now on please...no weather guessers or people who just live up the road.... etc etc.....many thanks
Light drizzly stuff this morning but stopped around 10.30AM and dry since. Wouldn't expect any change to the going as a result of the weather today - if anything it may have dried a tad more. Heavier rain due tomorrow according to the Bristol Weather Centre.

Bit of light rain overnight and into this morning - more than yesterday and I suspect it won't be drying out any today. The ground looks like its going to be determined by a band of rain coming in Friday evening which could last till early Saturday morning. Bristol Weather Centre talking about up to an inch! I'll report in due course.
Claisee was preciting soft ground for Tuesday and I think that's what we'll get. The course has been rolled and spiked, it is fresh turf and the grass has been growing. This will still be the best ground most of the horses have encountered for months.

Cheltenham's clerk of the course, Simon Claisse, reported 4mm of rain at the track on Thursday, with another 10mm expected before the meeting begins on Tuesday. That, he guessed, would be likely to result in an official going of soft

Monday looks like its not due to get much above freezing on the met office site today, (admittedly it changes quite frequently)Tuesday slightly better but not above freezing until 1000. No expert on weather but I wouldn't have thought it needs to get much colder before there'd be a genuine concern about things being frozen off.

Can't see it being frozen off - the days are much longer in March so the sun has more time and strength to get the temps up. Besides which Claisse says they will cover the whole course if required.
If they get the rain that is forecast tonight then it could be very tacky and tiring come Tuesday.

Agree completely uncle, think times will be slower than the official going would indicate. Hard frosts after the rain if it comes will simply hold the moisture in

The main rain band is forecast for late this afternoon and evening - should be heavier than the drizzle they had yesterday (upto 1/2" I'd say) so if thats the case it will be very soft come Saturday.
Altohugh it's then dry all the way throguh the meeting I reckon it will be soft on teusday, maybe with good to soft patches by Wednesday. Depending on how much sun the course gets the new course could be good to soft for Thurs/Fri.

Started raining properly about half a hour ago. Any drizzle we had overnight and up to 11.00AM this morning would just green the grass. Due to rain all afternoon then go cold from tomorrow, so I would have thought that 'soft' is a fair shout at this stage.

Yet soft can still be backed at 2/1 and good to soft 4/7 (some wnats £200 matched at 4/6) - something doesn't seem right?
Or is Claisse just going to call it good to soft no matter what happens.

Light rain, grey skies. Not cold. Thats the only plus.
I'm not going to bother going next week if the forecast is correct.

Forecasters have warned of snow and sub zero temperatures starting tomorrow and continuing into next week.
The east of Leinster should expect a “dusting of snow”, according to Met Eireann who say temperatures will fall to minus four degrees Celsius overnight tomorrow.
On Monday, another extremetly cold day is forecast with some wintry showers continuing to feed into Leinster, Munster and east Ulster.
There will be some snow accumulations on lower levels, but amounts will be fairly small, the national forecaster added. With temperatures falling as low as -6 degrees, a severe frost is expected on Monday night. Tuesday will also be cold, while temperatures will rise slightly by Wednesday.
HOPE IT'S NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM GETTING OUR HORSES ACROSS THE POND

Anybody coming make sure you wear plenty of layers and your thickest coat.
A bobble hat is a very good idea also.
The course is very exposed to the wind.

Anybody seen the most recent ITV weather forecast? AMBER ALERT OF SNOW FOR SOUTH WEST ENGLAND tonight and into Monday night! Hope there is no problems with this meeting! With am amber alert, this means any amount of snow could fall, how much is too much that they wouldn't be able to simply sweep off the covers and make it safe for racegoers horses etc

I know the south west is a rather large area, but them snow flakes on the maps on the tele did seem to be concentrated over the taunton - bristol - cheltenham areas

People will do anything to get this meeting on if it were ever to be under threat i would have thought. An army of volunteers inc every man and woman would quite happily sweep snow off the covers! So am not too overly worried, and its still 7/1 on here a full days cancelled.
Optimism, and all that!

The covers may protect the turf from softening or from freezing, but they also stop the ground from drying out. Not alot gets in or out. Someone ought to make use of the army and send them to Cheltenham incase the covers need to come out quickly. They wouldn't be making the best use of themselves since driving green godess's.

The snow has resulted in flight delays at Dublin Airport and customers have been urged to check their flight times before going to the airport.
It comes as motorists were being urged to drive with extreme care today after Met Eireann issued a weather warning for twelve counties.
Spokesperson for the DAA, Siobhan Moore, said: "We have had heavy snowfalls here at Dublin Airport which resulted in the main runway becoming contaminated with snow.
"Once a friction test is carried out, and if it is deemed to be unreliable, then we must go out and sweep the runway and clear it of the snow that has fallen.
"That took about 30 minutes, flights operations were suspended during that time. Unfortunatley that does have a knock-on effect on the sdchedules so some flights have been affected as a result of that."
Up to eight centimetres of snow is expected to fall in Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Donegal, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.
Dozens of crashes have already been reported on the roads.

There is a very strong wind blowing here at the moment. Will only serve to help the ground dry up. No rain scheduled today. It wont be the bog that some are expecting.
