Why do people go to these dreadful nights  ?

Do your own work and put your hard earned on em rather than listen to lord snooty CryCry

I think Boston Bob has a great chance in the RSA .
I think dynaste has to be taken on .
I reckon Hurricane fly is too short in the champion

Bobs worth is unbeaten at cheltenham CryCryCryCryCry

Theres a shady one at the bottom of the handicap in the grand annual .

I've been to the last two in the centaur.

I dont expect to be given winners and I prefer to go with an open mind, have a few pints ( and plenty of the roast pork rolls ) and buy a few raffle tickets.

It is 2 hrs of fun really not education.

I think anybody expecting to be given winners galore is very naive.

Don't think anyone with any sense takes them seriously to be honest. More an entertainment sort of thing and a good way to raise a few quid for charity.

You'll get the odd nugget of semi-decent information, but that's it.

It's all part of the build up to the greatest show on turf and as another poster mentioned, a good way to raise a little money for a worthwhile charity.
The best nugget I ever got from one was when BHB Handicapper Phil Smith thought Shamayoun was well handicapped in the Fred Winter, at 40-1 EW i was over the moon Happy

mr eboue summed it up pefectly, its just an evening out speculating and pontificating.
Report nalky March 4, 2013 3:22 PM GMT
we go to the one at hamilton every year to enjoy the night as some above have said but at hamilton they always get david pipe on loudspeaker via the phone and last 5 years his banker has won 4 times salut flo last year, that was only reason i backed it so they can point in the way of a winner or 2 .

If you don't like:-

a) Drinking
b) Talking about Horse Racing
c) Anticipating Cheltenham
d) A night out with the lads

then you have no place on here
Report judorick March 4, 2013 4:21 PM GMT
yes but you can do all that down the pub
Report buddeliea March 4, 2013 4:58 PM GMT

Preview nights are genrally entertaining and many of them raise funds for worthy charitable causes. Take what's said with a pinch of salt and enjoy the craic. AP is not going to tell you which of the 4 JP runners in a handicap is going to win.....he probably doesn't know himself, as he rarely rides them! There are so many horses mentioned someone has to tip a winner!!
Report Ramruma March 4, 2013 6:24 PM GMT
I've never been to one so take this with a pinch of salt but from the reports and videos, they spend too much time on the championship races where even my granny knows all the form.

We go to b,ham each year on Thursday ,just a few jars an a nice evening, plenty of speculation but mainly about what's under Lydia,s jumper !!
Report el chine March 4, 2013 7:21 PM GMT
Didn't the comment last year that jonjo said that alfie sherrin was the best handicapped horse in his yard come out of a preview evening before it won at 14s. ?
Report the istabraq years March 4, 2013 7:22 PM GMT
Agree with the general theme on here...get a grip Zealot. Who in there right mind expects someone to pop up and say just letting you know but hurricane fly is 20 ibs better then the year he won or bobs worths off his feed. Its simply a chance to enjoy the build up, some banter, some beers and time with mates....relax
Report Fabulous March 4, 2013 7:32 PM GMT
Alfie Sherrin was def tipped up as best handicapped at Abbots night in Hamilton last year.

Really enjoyed the couple I've been to at Hamilton, and gutted I'm missing it this year, as opposed to the one in Glasgow last week which was a bit disappointing, and agree with Ramruma, I'm more interested in the supporting races, rather than the championship races. I suppose we'd be in the minority with that one Ramruma, I just feel by this time, they've been discussed to the point of exhaustion. To be fair though, it's a lot of races to cram into a short space of time.
