Simonsig at 7/1 for the Arkle is the only Ante post bet i have done. Due to the possibility of soft ground i will wait until the day of the races before i make my selections. The ground can change very quickly but from what i've read in the Racing Post clerk of the course has said that there is a lot of moisture in the ground and that it wouldn't take much for it to go back to heavy. is this affecting anybody elses ante post betting?

usually it is but this season has seen a lot of rain. its the moisture deep under the ground that affects how much rain the track can take. if there's too much there then it takes less to turn the ground soft. think ill keep my powder dry.

The ground / weather threads are pointless / useless this far out. The weather for the week to 10 days before the festival will decide the ground - what happens in the next 2 weeks will have very little if any bearing on it.

all i'm writing is what is being said by the people who are looking after the track and they say that the ground is the wettest it has been in years and the long range forcast they use is for it to be mostly dry until the end of Feb then for it to turn rainy again then that is enough for me to hold fire until the day.

To be honest,i find it amazing that so many on here just ignore that. It may well end up good/soft as normal,dont think many are saying it wont,but nowt wrong with thinking in a wetter than normal last 6 months or so that it may not be,and looking at potential bets with that in mind. |

Ground will probably be determined by the weather in the 7 days leading up to the Festival. For those who might be interested, there has been virtually no rain here for a week. It has been reasonably warm and sunny during the past couple of days too, which will mean that the grass will have started to grow. This will take moisture out of the ground too. However, the starting point was probably 'waterlogged', so there is a long way to go before 'good' appears in the going description.

The grass is starting to grow now, that in itself will take a lot of moisture out of the ground over the next three weeks, Have your ante post punt my friend, it will most probably be good to soft, The only way it will be heavy is if they get a deluge couple of days before, the long range forcast isn't predicting that though.
