Just received this e-mail from Cheltenham

Dear RTB

When the eyes of the sporting world are on jump racing's ultimate contest, where will you be?

The Best Mate enclosure is already sold out

We have reduced Gold Cup Day capacity by 5,000 people

You've experienced the unique thrills of Gold Cup Day before, be part of it again this year as new heroes are crowned and legends made.

Remind yourself, listen to our new promo then book your tickets and be part of history.

Leaving aside their witless marketing and inability to run a dedeplication file of those that have booked (me, last October) against a master list of customers and only e-mail the residue, it sounds like:

a) Gold Cup day may be marginally less packed.
b) Less packed with uncommitted, last-minute bookers who are probably there for the booze rather than the racing.
c) their pricing policy is wrong, having to indulge in last-minute (ish) panic selling of badges into an already-less-than-previous-years capacity.

It is expensive but won't get any cheaper. I also thought £30 Tatts, £50 Club would be fair

this will be the first gold cup day i've missed for an age . went  to 1983 and all since . had some good ones , poor ones and many great ones . but 4 days and diluted competition together with same old taxi/hotel nonsense suggest my tues/weds visits this year will suffice . looking forward to a hell of a seafood /champagne lunch on gold cup day in my house . no budget !!!
