Cheltenham Festival

Hello all....
Been to the festival a few times, but this year going by train for first time ( Tuesday only- think its best day to go )
Couple of questions: How far is it to the course from station.... is it walkable or best to just jump in taxi ?
Also, we are gonna do placepots and a few other bets on Ladbrokes slips on way up ( Lads is only big bookie in our town ) is there a Lads shop handy to the station ?
Finally, last train to Totnes is about 9pm ish, any decent boozers handy to station as probably have last few pints somewhere handy so dont risk missing last train.... might want somewhere pre-racing for a good breakfast as well.

I'd say it's about a 30-40 minute walk from the station to the course. They put loads of buses on from the station to the course.
The buses stop in middle of Cheltenham on the way to course and back if you want to jump off. The bus is about £4-5 return I think. You can normally pay for that when you buy your train ticket at the station. I know there is a BetFred right by the station but not sure about a Laddys. |

I've done the walk and it took an hour. I was walking quite fast aswell.
There's a few pubs by the train station so no worries there. |

An hour !!! thats out of the question then, our train gets in around 11:15, so would be getting in course later than we planned..
Another thing, usually get Tatts tkts on the day off the touts, is that still feasible ? Had a look on Ebay, seems to be mainly Best Mate stand tkts going. Cheers for the info! |

Yeah its a long walk. An hour is probably accurate. A cab is miles better than a crowded bus as well. You could get the cab to the main ladbrokes actually, and walk up the hill from there. Tatts will still have tickets on the day I think for Tuesday, if not getting one from a tout is easy.

Get the bus from the station, jump off in town centre, there is a few laddies nearby, plenty of pubs. enjoy.

Cutting it a bit fine arriving at 11.15, getting to a Laddys and having breakfast!! From the train station, the nearest Ladbrokes is at Montpelier with plenty of places to get a bite to eat and a drink. It would be a 20 minute walk or 3 mins in a taxi. There is a taxi rank at the front of the Lloyds bank at Montpelier for your onward journey to the course. Coming back, there is the Midland hotel aka the bfair arms which is right next to the station. The Kings Arms would be the next closest down the Gloucester Road or the Lansdown Inn back towards Montpelier. What they have done at the train station is put ticket barriers in stopping you walking over the bridge to the other side if you don't have a ticket. Not sure what they plan to do race week as it is a nuisance (to say the least) on a normal day. |

'Betfair Arms' right across from the Station to drink in before your train. Last year we stopped a local and asked them to give us a lift to the course for a tenner, great service

 Think taxi will be best job as theres 3 of us coming up from DEvon, plus meeting up with my lad & his mates who are train-ing it from Brum, but they get to Chelt an hour before us ( give em time to get the round in haha _ |

there is a train station by the racecourse car park but i think it's only used for the 'posh' i.e. horrendously expensive special train from london

Did the train from Telford last year, massive queues at New St then the coach from the course took about 30 mins in the traffic. Take a taxi come out of train station onto bridge there is a Rank there that is not part of the taxis that go onto Station. £8 but there in no time .....Trains there and back are a nightmare end of ..

The train station at the racecourse car park is at the south end of one of those "un-networked" lines with old steam trains only - it doesn't currently connect with any other train lines. Had a look the other day - £55 return for what must be a 10 mile round trip at best. Nice if you have the money
