If I was an owner of some of these 2nd string Cheltenham fancies I would be getting rather hacked off by some of the stuff happening at the moment.
It seems some jockeys feel obliged to publicly almost force the owners hand by suggestingraces which suit their purposes.
Firstly we have Ruby stating Tidal Bay would be far better off running in the World Hurdle than the Gold Cup, when over the last 9 months he has form all over the place suggesting he can win a Gold Cup. Of course Ruby has S Conti in the Gold Cup and limited options in the World. Nice one Ruby.
Next up we have two instance yesterday, firslty Barry G. Captain Conan has been mighty impressive on all his efforts over 2 miles. Yesterday, he looked for all the world to struggle over 2.4, and only winning the race because Third Intention dogged it. Yet Barrys first words were this is defo a Jewson horse. Is that because you have Simonsig in the Arkle and very little other option in the Jewson Barry? Nice one!
Then we have Tom Scudamore. Yesterday saw the debut over fence of Goulanes in the Towton. He made a big impression by winning this Grade 2 event on his chasing debut, beating some good solid yardsticks, surely he can only improve. He is a horse who, thus far is unbeaten over 3 miles, chase and hurdle, and Toms own words, is a true grinder.
What do we look for when trying to find a Sun Alliance winner? Yes a true grinder! Yet Toms advice was to go for the 4 miler unless its heavy then go for the Sun Alliance(ie, if its heavy Dynaste wont run). How the hell can you suggest that an unbeaten horse over 3 miles winning a grade2 on debut, should then go for the plodders race?
Oh I know Tom, its because you feel you have a decent ride in the RSA and limited chance in the 4miler. His comment, I hope they dont meet for a long while, sums it up nicely, in the "look after number one "stakes.
Lets just hope the owners of these animals choose the races THEY feel are best for their animals not be pushed about by Jockeys and Trainers wanting to cover as many bases as possible to feather their own nest.
If these stables lost their"stars" would they be singing a different tune, Im sure we all know they would.....

Or possibly that he feels Dynaste should go for the Jewson and Goulanes for the RSA?
I never seen any after race interviews so obviously if he said that maybe that is his view but if I was the owner I would be going RSA Goulanes.

yeh it is amateurs,and yesterday he looked oupaced to me and ran on,suggesting to me that the 4 miler is the better option.

Agree with this. IMO it was Geraghty's selfishness that saw Simonsig go for the Neptune last year. He knew he had Tetlami to ride in the Supreme, and nothing for the Neptune. Horses should be campaigned with their needs in mind.

He won didn't he? You post would have had some merit if the horse had been turned over!Seems like a very good decision in hindsight and the horse has hardly gone backwards since, so I'm not sure that he wasn't campaigned with his best needs in mind. Can't imagine the owner is unhappy anyway.

I doubt it was up to BG where Simonsig went. You have to bare in mind that some jockeys know what else is in the yard. It could have been that they thought Darlan had a right good chance in the Supreme, so quite rightfully wanted another runner in a different race. If Bg for example tells Puffin Billys owners to aim for the Neptune, then it's jusrt as likely he's dropping hints about horses he knows about such as MTOY and Jezki.
Agree 100% BigAdz. To me Ruby's comment regarding Tidal Bay was just so transparent and it made him look stupid. TB has earned the right to contest the most prestigious race in National Hunt racing. Owners seldom have a chance to have a horse good enough to run in it, let alone win. Ruby knows deep down Graham Wylie would never miss this opportunity so even though to me he looked stupid, it was probably more like wishful thinking on his behalf and the comment was said in jest. This is horse racing so who the f*k knows. It's just one big enigma to me, but still a hell of a lot of fun. gltu
On a side note i've noticed that in recent years, with nearly all team sports, the players have become a lot more vocal and have much more influence on how a game is being played. Although it's ultimately the owners decision their opinions have been diluted somewhat. This is clearly evident in horse racing too.

The Hunt Ball fiasco shows what can happen when owners do put their foot down (as well as their money). Sometimes the professionals are right, even if we doubt the purity of their motives.
I wish I could have a few Hunt Ball "fiascos"........making a million or so along the way....
I should think Tom has a 'limited chance' in the 4 miler alright 
LOL, point taken, but I have seem him enough to sometimes get confused if he is a pro or not
