Grand Cru's-One Man?

I think the horse will never prouduce a top class performance again but this may be worth a try since there is not much to lose.

not sure their are too many ? myself,just dont think hes much good to be honest.
spose its worth a go doing something different,and giving up on 3m type races is definitely the way to go if they do.

I'm fully expecting him to miss Cheltenham

i reckon he will run in the world hurdle.

I think he's like One Man also and should drop to 2m

It sounds crazy but I see parallels with the running of One Man.  This horse was consistently campaigned as an out and out stayer but in a strongly run race races at Chelts, never performed.  Perhaps a frop back in trip in a strongly run race may perk him up a bit.

Unfortunately for GC he wouldn't be competing in one of the worst Queen mum's in living memory, unlike one man did.

Hunt ball was an underrated horse that is now overrated,Grand Crus has always been overrated.
Both horses owe all that to their connections,in particular David Pipe and Anthony Knott.
Hunt Ball is quiet an admirable sort though,plus he won me some money last year at the festival
Never had a bet on Grand Crus,oh apart from a small wager to beat Big Bucks in the WH.

Since he started chasing the Pipes have never stopped banging the drum,until recently.

to be fair to pipe the horse did beat the current fav and the current third fav for this years gold cup at kempton

Yes but they did not know that at the time,and he won a novice chase at the end of the day.
they started talking Gold Cup next!!!
its been one think after another since he started chasing,even when the horse was not backing them up with his performances,still they went on.
Not the horses fault of course,he can only do what he can on the day,but people were probably taking it all in and parting with money on the strength of the yards comments,hes still got a few clinging on now!!

To be fair bud, anyone backing a horse of the Pipe's on the strength of what the trainer (and his father before him) says about it, want's their bumps feeling.

Ask either of them for a straight yes or no answer and theyd say 'it depends what you mean by yes or no.'

have been thinking since his failure at Chelt last season that he should be tried over 2m. the way he is so keen and they try to anchor him at the back. let him go and get on with it over the shorter trip. they have nothing to loose.

No budd it isn't. Until the wheels came off in the RSA you couldn't knock the horse over several performances. Don't forget he beat Commanche hollow over 2 and a half at Cheltenham giving him 10lbs and that one would probably have finished second in the King George if it was over 2 and a half. People held on to the thought of him for too long. As soon as he failed in the Paddy Power they should have accepted that his light had gone out.

In the interest of balance, his next run was then to run third in the King George over 3 miles on unsuitable ground.

yeh got destroyed and beat some two and a half milers.

I can give you a further update on Grands Crus (pictured right) who is back cantering now following his disappointing effort in the Argento Chase at Cheltenham.   He was given an easy time of things after his race while we tried to get to the bottom of his lacklustre effort and he is now being treated for gastric ulcers.  He is back on the gallops and looks well in himself so I will need to speak with his owners and decide the plan of action.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) there is a forfeit stage for the Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase and World Hurdle and I can inform you that he will be scratched from the Gold Cup but will be left in both the Ryanair Chase and World Hurdle.
