Not much point in going on about this race too much!!

Really all about Sizing Europe and/or Flemenstar running for me.
If one turns up we might just prevent a walkover,if both turn up we have a race imo.
If neither turn up...........good night.

Or Finians, Bud. His first run at Ascot is forgiveable. He runs at Ascot in Feb
Report buddeliea January 27, 2013 11:40 AM GMT
You think he will run in the race mate?
Hope he does but have a feeling hes going Ryanair.
Report sintonian January 27, 2013 11:45 AM GMT
He is not certain to run in but I can't see him staying a Gold Cup trip tbh, owner said it was one or the other, does not like the Ryanair.
Report wellchief January 27, 2013 11:51 AM GMT
Sizing would have a huge chance in the Ryaniar imo.  Backed him ages ago at 25's but layed that off now because it does look like the QMCC.

He didn't impress me at all last time out against Rubi Light over 2m though, a trip too short for Rubi Light imo, and would of expected Sizing to brush him aside a little easier than he actually did.

Finians, Sizing and Somersby would make the market really interesting in the w/o market though.

Yesterday proved to me that Sanctuaire's run at the end of last year vastly over rated him and he might as well wait for that race again this year.
Report buddeliea January 27, 2013 12:07 PM GMT
Well lets hope the owner gets his way Sint.Hes no chance in the Gold Cup imo,and would add to the QM for sure, being the reigning champ.
Ha a look at th wo market chief, dont like it to be honest, but yes a few more decent runners would help that mate.
Report taximan January 28, 2013 5:24 PM GMT
33s e/w Somersby would tempt me,obviously probably burnt the win money, but at over 8/1 a place could be value, need to know if def runner
Report robbo69 January 29, 2013 7:17 AM GMT
surely this is a race just to make a 40% profit on. How long does it take to get 40% at the bank these days?
why try to look for ew value just take what the race gives you which is as close to 'free money' as you will ever get. And on the day some bookies will go 8/13 or 4/7 so just get up early and fill your boots EASY.
Report bluebirdfan January 30, 2013 11:03 AM GMT
Just imagine the race we would have with this field....
Sprinter Sacre
Flemenstar
Sizing Europe
Cue Card

Instead we will have....
Sprinter Sacre
Williams Wishes
Shooters Wood
Kinkeel
Report robbo69 January 30, 2013 12:28 PM GMT
your second list looks far more likely

Another good result for the wonderful price wise. One selection beaten 6 weeks before the race!!! that must be a record even for him.
God bless his followers
Report Brooksielad January 30, 2013 6:32 PM GMT
can see Sprinter Sacre and 3 or 4 rags turning up fighting over place money. Wish at least one decent horse would turn up so we can measure Sprinter Sacres performance.
Report robbo69 January 30, 2013 6:37 PM GMT
See your point but when he wins it will have to be a top performance, its a championship race. rather like Frankel these 'rags' he beats out of sight are good horses hes just that much better. Think we might have to wait till next year to see him have a race though if Mr Henderson allows Simonsig to take him on

Bit harsh robbo!

Am not a follower in any way but he was on a hiding to nothing in this race. Who could he realistically have put up? Sprinter is home and hosed and the others that will be placed if running all have other likelier targets...
Report robbo69 January 30, 2013 6:58 PM GMT
We all know that so why not pass on the race? 27 others to pick from.
Surely none of even his followers could back against a 1/3 shot?
If he has to tip in the race put something up place only or in the betting without market.
Or did he really think that could win?
Report tomdeane January 30, 2013 7:09 PM GMT
I'm pretty sure he doesn't choose to pick in these races; he's just told that this week he needs to tip in this race, or that race...

But my point is also that this was possibly the hardest race of all time to attack with the PWise mandate. Who could he have put up?

Cue Card, Flemenstar, Finian's Rainbow, Sizing Europe and Sanctuaire would all have great place chances if they run but it's highly likely that most of them won't. If he'd put one of them up at 5-2 in the betting without market and punters didn't even get a run from them he would have been slaughtered.
Report unclepuncle January 30, 2013 7:12 PM GMT
I'd be amazed, and very disappointed, if Sizing Europe doesn't run in the QM. Add Finians as well and at least SS may have to get into 4th gear to win.

Can't see Flemenstar running no matter what happens in the Irish Hennessey.
Report robbo69 January 30, 2013 7:15 PM GMT
Take your point, however if as you think hes told which races to tip in (i doubt that) maybe he could state all the horses you say giving your points and then say what everyone who pays £2 to by the racing post knows, SS is cert. Personally i would have more respect for that view.

Not a hope in hell of that kind of price imo - they would need police outside the shop to control the crowds !!!

Report robbo69 January 30, 2013 7:24 PM GMT
Some bookies are already 1/4 so not taking a penny on the horse they will give something away on the day, it happens every year on these good things, maybe 8/13 might be pushing it a bit but will be a much better price than today.

Can anyone help me with likely runners please - i.e. there must be some value in including such horse(s) in ew multiples?
Report tomdeane January 30, 2013 7:50 PM GMT
It's a fascinating punting race.

I think Sprinter will be offered at a value price because I can see the following scenario panning out:

Plans will be up in the air for all the other maybes (Sizing Europe, Cue Card, Flemenstar, Finian's, Sanctuaire et al) because most will assume the majority will run in other races, but nobody gains from committing too soon. If you own one of these, you might think it's worth taking on Sprinter with the likelihood of a big pay cheque waiting for you if/when you come second. But you wouldn't want to take him on as well as more than one of the others in that list, because you'd hate to finish third or fourth in a race in which you realistically have little chance of winning.

On the flip side, if you think most of the others do go in the Ryanair, you'll want to run in the Queen Mother, but will leave it late before you know (or think you know) that's the way they're heading.

So... after all that to-ing and fro-ing, I could see a sudden weight of cash in the betting without market once plans are known, plus a lot of dirty Each/Way cash that might even have the bookies wanting to take a bit on Sprinter Sacre, rather than encouraging punters to avail themselves to a better deal on another that is probably as nailed on for a place as Sprinter is for the win.

I was thinking the exact same.

Did anyone hear anything about whishful thinking since his last race?
he's currently 50/1

l was thinking of an eachway double with him and binocular 20/1 in the champion hurdle.

the place part pays 80/1

WisHful Thinking @ 50/1 NRFB with VC is a great e/w bet I think, its ran some great races this year and if runs which i think it will, should have great place claims specially with the field cutting up.

I'd of much preferred Menorah, Hobbs is strange.
Report Graeme83 January 31, 2013 6:21 PM GMT
Just be greatful that Hobbs isn't one of the top trainers. He's not a man you can depends on, and borders on the ignorant side.
Report robbo69 February 1, 2013 6:58 AM GMT
how do you come by the idea Hobbs is not a top trainer?
Had alot of good horse in his care and just the odd 1000+ winners

i think why complicate things? just put whatever is in your pocket on Sprinter Sacre, enjoy watching him hack up then go collect!

With a small field almost guaranteed and some of the possible contenders dodging the fight, this looks a good call. Decent Festival record and any improvement in the prevailing ground conditions are a big plus for him too.
Report BigRob1 February 6, 2013 8:25 PM GMT
Is Somersby not more likely to go for the Ryanair tho?

Has there been anything said what his likely target will be?
