Such a close race to call at this stage, I doubt he'll be telling people to lump on anything in single figures.

Of those in double figures, I'd put up Bino and Cotton Mill ew.

Bino was fourth last year, with not the best ride, with a good festival record from an all conquering stable.

Cotton Mill will run in the Betfair and if he wins that, then he'd have to be a player in this.  Zarkandar won that last year off 151, so if Cotton Mill has any chance whatsoever of winning a Champion, he'd have to win the Betfair fairly cosily off 145.

It's a tricky one for him though.  If VC were 50's like some of the others, I'd say take the 50's and if he wins the Betfair he'll be much shorter, and if he loses he won't run and go down the handicap route, and you'll get your stake as a free bet.  However, VC are 33's, which is on the short side imo, but again, if he wins the BF he'll be shorter than that.

What ever he tips won,t win as all his ante post selections last year did,nt, but his on the day selections fared much better, Alfie S@25/1, Sync@14/1 etc.

He likes Zarkandar though. On the basis that on form Darlan has no right to be 3 points shorter nor Grandouet the same price ( imo obviously )he may pick him, whilst I accept his price is now not any great value

btw, re VC going NR-FB. It's only on a win bet up to, I think £100. I have a couple of £50 e-w bets and I will only get a free fifty should any be NRs. Really peed off for not fully reading the T&C

You do get your place AND win back if when they are combined are equal to or less than £50. I think anyway!

still dont understand why people listern to this price wise clown!!!yes he tips winners but dont we all have the odd winner or 2? At last years festival he tipped the same horse (captain chris) in 2 anti post races!!! it didnt even run!!!, Shortly after tipping the gold cup winner(his 4th tip in the race)he went 70 or 80 tips without a winner. I'd give up on a run like that certainly not get the former wallies on CH4 telling the world im the best tipster out there when i do finally end that run (i know that was thier words not his)
this one just somes him up,yes was the only thing able to go with simonsig but not been seen since, ploughed though the side of the hurdle which could leave its mark mentally on the horse.surely 33-1 in what is the best hurdle race of the year is only a fair price not a great price?

Cant understand why bookies dont want to lay his tips, my locals are £25 ew or £50 win max on a Saturday morning, i know they are going to shortern them up after about 30 seconds (well minutes anyway) but surely its a game about getting money in the till and if he does tip a winner its the old rough with the smooth. Not proper bookies anymore, do they not understand they are in the gambling business!!!!
And before i get shot down good luck to all who follow him and are sailing round the med on the luxury liners from there winnings.....

I do like his comments and previews of races purely as a good read, and I actually do respect his thoughts... but I have to agree he is no good for the punter.. it makes it almost an impossible task to bet on the day without being limited.  I do think his tipping is over hyped... and panic is mainly from people who probably dont look at his p/l at all... or even some of his tipped horses... where he tips on potential ability (based on what price you are getting) rather than form.

It was getting so ridiculous I remember when Tom tipped a 150/1 outsider in a irish race group race, it had absolutely no chance... on form or ability against the field... Korals were only taking £5 max bets... I would have taken 100s no way that would have got placed on a month of sunday! but sometimes wish these bookies dabbled in the form book... maybe they would take his selections on.

True, C&A won a Supreme, but has been well and truly stuffed twice this season.  Whilst Cotton Mill hasn't achieved anywhere near as much, or even ran this year, there is still the element of being really unexposed an open to all amounts of improvement when he gets his good ground.

I'd rather put my money on one that may be top class, than one that we know isn't.

That said, Cotton Mill's price is now far too short; at the moment I'd have him no shorter than 33's.

Aye it did win on very bad ground last year, in egg and spoon races , 20/1 very fair price for c&a in ch, ive had some on!

I think Tom is an excellent form student and enjoy reading his columns or hearing his thoughts. I'm sure he doesn't expect Cotton Mill, or Willaims Wishes who he tipped for the QM, to win at Cheltenham, and doubt he has had a bean on either of them.

His effect on the market is purely down to the arbers. Poeple back his horses first thing simply to lay off on here for a free bet or to lock in a profit. It's free money so you can't blame them. I've done it myself at the Cheltenham Festival when the bookies tend to allow a bit more money on at the advertised morning prices - last year if it hadn't been for having a ton on Alfie Sherrin @ 25/1 and Sychronizes at 14/1 and then laying them off for around half those prices I'd have had a losing meeting.
