Not great news for MTOY - hopefully they'll still point him at Supreme.

Assume that McCoy will ride Jezki so interesting to see who Barry chooses if that's the case
Report stevo1 January 10, 2013 7:50 PM GMT
FFs means Barry wont be riding hoping not true as on big time good prices
Report festivalfanatic January 10, 2013 7:51 PM GMT
That's knackered his Supreme chance then if AP takes the ride.
Report The RealDeal January 10, 2013 7:53 PM GMT
Might thwap him home at Taunton later though!
Report Brooksielad January 10, 2013 7:56 PM GMT
Im hoping Mccoy rides Jezki as I would love Barry on MTOY. Shades of CaptainCeeBee/Binocular
Report buddeliea January 10, 2013 7:59 PM GMT
So AP will ride Jezki, and BG will now be on River M i should think.
Report The RealDeal January 10, 2013 8:10 PM GMT
A few races to be run between now and then though.
Report sc1883 January 10, 2013 8:19 PM GMT
barry wasnt going to ride jezki anyway, would have had river maigue. now may get a chance on mtoy who he adores
Report Brooksielad January 10, 2013 8:31 PM GMT
idd he's smitten with the tent.
Report wellchief January 10, 2013 10:01 PM GMT
Half a million for a horse with the a few novice hurdle wins!?!

Probably nothing to JP but that's a huge price he has / will allegedly pay.

People mentioned My Tent or Yours, but he also has Waaheb who has slipped under the radar.  Would he run all three in the race?
Report Howdi January 10, 2013 10:20 PM GMT
gARDE cHAMPETRE 450K !!!!
Report Brooksielad January 10, 2013 10:38 PM GMT
yeah think he will be three handed in the Supreme. Can't see Waaheb being upped in trip myself...
Report Tory January 10, 2013 10:40 PM GMT
Still praying snake eyes may get to supreme but appreciate bit of a dream and time running out. Jezki deal won't help matters
Report robbo69 January 11, 2013 12:04 PM GMT
Cant understand why some on this thread think its a bad thing AP riding Jezki. Must be pure luck he's been champion jockey 15 times and riden nearly twice as many winners as anyone else!!! Cant see it being down to him if it doesnt win.
Report buddeliea January 11, 2013 12:22 PM GMT
nor me my friend
Report wellchief January 11, 2013 5:50 PM GMT
I wouldn't say having AP was a negative; but losing on quality horses like Sprinter, Binocular and Darlan doesn't inspire confidence.

Although I wouldn't say losing on them were down to him though, so that probably makes my point pointless Wink
Report buddeliea January 11, 2013 6:34 PM GMT
I can see maybe people thinking BG might be more suited to the horse, but if hes good enough i dont think AP would stop him from winning.
Report R Carver January 11, 2013 7:03 PM GMT
I agree Budd.
Report bluebirdfan January 11, 2013 8:24 PM GMT
Anyone got the feeling that JP really really wants to win the Champion Hurdle next year?
Report duffy January 12, 2013 1:03 AM GMT
fair play to him i say, he keeps many a yard going with some of the dross he's prepared to keep in training.
Report Graeme83 January 12, 2013 12:11 PM GMT
I like how this thread is going on as if the thread title has been confirmed.
Report Graeme83 January 12, 2013 2:37 PM GMT
Happy It's been confirmed now. I knew that would happen. Horse will stay in training with Harrington.
Report unclepuncle January 12, 2013 7:05 PM GMT
Have laid off my 8/1 on Jezki and my 20/1 on Golantilla for the Bumper as I hate having McCoy on my horses.Sad
Report roobuck January 12, 2013 7:27 PM GMT
What makes you think McCoy will ride Golantilla?
Report unclepuncle January 12, 2013 9:05 PM GMT
^ Sorry Roobuck I got my wires crossed.
Report unclepuncle January 12, 2013 9:09 PM GMT
^ Still happy to have laid off my Golantilla bumper bet at 10/1. Now have a decent free bet at 10/1 and if it goes really short on the day I can lay off again and guarantee some money back - useful if the first two days of the meeting don't go to plan.
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 January 12, 2013 9:32 PM GMT
Should we really be worried that Mcmanus has bought Jezki though, those of us with tasty vouchers for the supreme (on MTOY 10/1+20/1 & JEZKI 8/1 personally) as he often runs 2 or 3 in the same race, supreme is no different.
Report cufcno1 January 13, 2013 11:50 AM GMT
he loves to win the supreme, jezki and my tent or yours are the most likely winners from what ive seen, other than puffin billy they aint much else
Report woodworm January 13, 2013 4:34 PM GMT
I'm happy if McCoy rides but wont be disappointed if BJG steps back on board or Robbie Power for that matter.
What does concern me is the straight to the festival quote today. Horses without a recent prep run have a pretty average record in the supreme; would much prefer it if he ran in (and won) the Deloitte next month.
Report Tory January 13, 2013 4:39 PM GMT
NOOOOO!!! Where did you see that quite woodworm?
Report woodworm January 13, 2013 4:43 PM GMT
Its on the sporting life site now!
Harrington did the same with Steps to Freedom last year if I recall!
Report Graeme83 January 13, 2013 4:48 PM GMT
I don't think it's much of an idea to give a novice hurdler that ssort of time off track.
Report Tory January 13, 2013 5:00 PM GMT
Personally think its an awful decision. Got a bit of 8/1 with laddies and not that chuffed about her decision. Got to have a prep run
Report woodworm January 13, 2013 5:16 PM GMT
The horse has enough experience on the track, but the last thing you want for the first race on the Tuesday when the whole place is buzzing is a fresh horse!
Report woodworm January 13, 2013 5:19 PM GMT
That doesn't quite sound right; of course you want a fresh horse; I can just see him running too free and wasting energy.
A prep run 3-4 wks prior would take the edge off.

Hey-ho should probably leave the training to the trainers!
Report Tory January 13, 2013 5:25 PM GMT
You're right woodworm. From the last 10yrs, cinders and ashes had the latest prep run which was 21st jan.
Report supersam January 13, 2013 5:51 PM GMT
anyone else think pique sous has been a bit over looked at 25s?
Report chief dan January 13, 2013 6:02 PM GMT
yes sam deff worth a look came up the hill in bumper a lot better than jezki an is deff some value 25s worth an e/w play, i saw the owners at chelt before the bumper an they were really keen on it to run a big race in bumper and it did would like to see it run again before chelt though before it carrys my dollar, but im really keen on dodging bullets imo hes solid and sets the standard
Report duffy January 13, 2013 7:57 PM GMT
I was wondering, with MTOY being the tote gold trophy job horse, if perhaps with GMOOH just failing in doing the double a couple of years back if maybe he thought that he wouldn't want to leave the supreme behind at newbury and fancied another in his colours that was going to be 100% solely targeted at the supreme!!
Report Brooksielad January 13, 2013 8:14 PM GMT
personally think its a very good trial horses that win or place generally go on to run very good races at the festival. Just think he's gone bit mad buying horses for them prices tbh.
Report alleged22 January 14, 2013 11:37 AM GMT
You're right woodworm. From the last 10yrs, cinders and ashes had the latest prep run which was 21st jan.

AL FEROF,S prep run was in mid feb
Report Tory January 14, 2013 12:10 PM GMT
I meant latest in terms of number of days off the track - probably worded wrong. Before last year, last 10 winners had run in past 45 days.
Report Slabster January 14, 2013 2:20 PM GMT
Captain Cee Bee was off for 115 days before his Supreme Novices win.
Report spothediference January 14, 2013 5:27 PM GMT
re pique sous.there waiting for better ground for him to run. price very fair at mo imo.
Report Joist January 14, 2013 7:12 PM GMT

Report CVByrne January 14, 2013 7:35 PM GMT
Keep shortening Jezki keep shortening Cool

Shorter he get's the bigger my free bet when I lay off my stake.

Slabster you are correct - racing post book has it incorrect!!
Report bluebirdfan January 14, 2013 9:04 PM GMT
I'm still waiting to lay Jezki off, don't like horses who haven't run within 2 months of the festival so the decision to go straight there has really annoyed me
Report stevo1 January 14, 2013 9:18 PM GMT
Agree bluebird on at decent prices and topped up, will be laying some back closer to race, stats very bad for not running within x amount of days before.
Report Joist January 14, 2013 10:54 PM GMT
Cheers Supersam.
Report wellchief January 15, 2013 8:12 PM GMT
Waaheb's price has more than doubled in the last day or so, whilst My Tent or Yours has come right in.

Me thinks a decision has been made and JP will have 2 runners.
Report Can't Catch Me January 15, 2013 8:16 PM GMT
Was thinking the same well chief Sad gutted if true as have a good few quid invested on Waaheb
Report Slabster January 15, 2013 8:23 PM GMT
Wonder if Ned Buntline and Snake Eyes will run? I'd say he'll have 3 runners possibly.
Report wellchief January 15, 2013 8:25 PM GMT
I had a small bet when he was 14's, so would be a bit gutted too (less than a tenner though, so not the end of the world).

FWIW I think 2.5 would be perfect for him, and I'd see him running a big race in the Neptune, although I have no idea whether he'd even be entered (from what I've seen I think he'd stay the extra distance).

I think a bit like Simonsig last year, going that little bit slower would help his jumping because he has made a few errors in his couple of runs over hurdles.
Report Can't Catch Me January 15, 2013 8:29 PM GMT
I think Snake Eyes is deffo a handicap plot horse myself....

I'm not sure tbh. You might be right but haven't seen enough to suggest the further he goes the better. I still think a fast run 2m will suit him, although I take your point about his hurdling, certainly wasnt great last time. I have a leg of a horse with Weld and have been itching to ask him about Waaheb, but he hasn't run yet this season for me to go over and see him and try and extract a fe Cheltenham clues!
Report wellchief January 15, 2013 8:55 PM GMT
CCM, it's probably more that from what I've seen I think he might not quite be good enough over a top class 2m race, although that may be harsh after so little hurdle experience.

Being a top class bumper horse, they are normally upped in trip, and because I think it will be hard to reverse the form with Jezki, I see no reason why the Neptune shouldn't be on their radar, where he can use his 2m speed at the finish.
Report Can't Catch Me January 15, 2013 8:59 PM GMT
Not sure mate. I was at Limerick when he absolutely laughed at Cash and Go and had too much speed for him over 2m so I don't think he's slow. C&G looks a two miler, so still think Waaheb will be very effective at that trip. I believe Weld thinks he will be better on better ground, but the form doesn't really back that up yet, so a bit of guesswork for now.

It's a massive leap of faith, but I still don't think he's as far behind Jezki as the last run suggests. Just seemed to run a bit flat that day to me.
Report wellchief January 15, 2013 9:10 PM GMT
Very fair point mate. You've seen much more of him than me and are much more involved in the game, so you're probably right.

Hopefully he'll be able to fulfill the potential he showed as a bumper horse.
Report Can't Catch Me January 15, 2013 9:14 PM GMT
I don't think being more involved means that mate Laugh

Fingers crossed anyway. Always more complicated when JP is involved as he and his team will decide who is going where.
Report RN1986 January 21, 2013 7:15 PM GMT
Anyone think this horse will be any shorter, come the Supreme Hurdle hurdle day. Want to lay my bet, but because he's not scheduled to run before the supreme, do you think this horse will drift come March 12th.
Report bluebirdfan January 21, 2013 8:51 PM GMT
I'd say he will, My Tent or Yours and Un Atout will both most likely shortern plus anything else could run in the meantime. Can see Jezki going off at least 5/1
Report unclepuncle January 21, 2013 9:05 PM GMT
If nothing comes out and impresses in the meantime he will still be 3/1 in the morning (though may get gambled in to 2/1ish).

If one or two others throw there hat into the ring (MTOY, Un Atout etc) then it could be 5/1 the field in the morning.

Personally I've laid him off at 9/2.
