Isn't it about time this horse was considered for the big one?
1, Feltham time 3 seconds quicker than Long Run and much easier success, and plenty in the tank.
2, Won in a way far more sustainable over longer trips, not burning bright all the way, a la Grands Crus. This fella has looked better the further he has gone.
3, More to the point in a year where all the contenders have intertwined form lines and direct comparison leaves a 12 year old with the best collateral form, is it not worth a go?
4, And the most pertinent one, the horse jumps superbly and is hardly going to improve his jumping, so why not go for it now. Strike while the iron is hot. A bird in the hand etc. Who knows how the horse will be in a year? Right now you have a horse that can jump and travel, and is worth a go, and probably rated as good a hurdler as any of these to boot.

Do you not realize that the same connections had a novice last year that was 4 seconds faster than Kauto Star in the aforementioned races and they now regret running Grand Cru in the rsa. The form of last years feltham is most likely to be far better than the form of this years and connections won't be rushed or fooled into making any second mistake. Only for there is no other stand out novice chaser over 3 mile this year Dynaste will most likely take in the rsa, however the initial plan was to take in the jewson.

Apart from winning the same races and being grey, they are two completely different horses in the way they travel, jump and finish races.
Dynaste jumps like an old hand already, so why not tackle the big boys? If they are good enough they are old enough. Still, one dimensional thinkers are what the bookies love. |

Dynaste won't win the RSA ffs so they wouldn't dream of putting him in the Gold Cup.

Anyone who criticises the OP was obviously born with a wealth of equine information. There is nothing wrong with the question, as you don't learn unless you ask. The answer is 'no', because the horse is a chasing novice, and the novices who will content the gold cup are more experienced, good and tough.

I am hoping Pipe Snr is whispering some advice in Pipe Jnr ear saying Jewson 2013 and Gold Cup 2014. Some people dont like the introduction of the Jewson because it weakens the Arkle/RSA but as a trainer/owner it has created an excellent stepping stone for young Novice Chasers to the Gold Cup the following year. Might as well use it to their benefit. The RSA is a tough slog for 5 or 6 year old Novice Chasers. Mullins clearly thinking that with SDC who was 6 last year when winning Jewson. Dynaste is 7 this year so plenty of time for Gold Cup aspirations. I think they should run Dynaste in the Jewson this year and win it. They are probably 50/50 on the Jewson/RSA decision right now. In my opinion no chance he will run in the Gold Cup in 2013.

Yeah exactly right Hayling, RSA is a grinder tough race. Tell me one horse who has won it who would ever have a sniff over 2m4f? All are out and out stayer who in it. Dynaste would be more nailed on than jesus in the Jeweson. But RSA he'll face horses giving their all to make it a stamina test. You think Back in Focus or Rocky Creek will let it be a slow run affair and get outpaced? It'll be brutal like every year, stayers making it a long long tough race. Fancy speedy types have never been in those races and cry enough when the hill is halfway mounted.

Albertas run is pretty good over 2 and a half mile.
Dont think Dynaste should go for Gold cup this season,but i do think hes a lot better chaser than Grand Crus or Time for Rupert,and in time will be top notch. |

People say that every year bud, English stayers are so utterly rubbish this season he is flattered. I can't see him having a chance in RSA. He'll be brutalised. We've a rake of great stayers and out and out stayers to come over. England has none at all.

yeh,i think jewson should be his target,and to be honest i think the race is a godsend for trainers with potentially top notch GC type horses,and i can see the RSA suffering as a race.

imo,some horses progress at different rates/ages ive said many times the right race for dynaste is jewsons as he has a turn of foot over 2.4 which is possibly blunted atm over 3. i do think the jewson will be a harder race with cc and ow likely to run in it. i dont think the rsa will sufffer because of the jewson,bobs worth would never win a jewson . |

Disagree...BW would have been able to win the jewson , people seem to be labelling him as some sort of out and out grinder, but he doesn't win his races that way, he travels through his races and puts distance between himself and the rest at the end through picking up and not just through out grinding, he picked CC up last year after giving him a head start at the last over 2.4...weight concession or not , CC is one of our top speed horses who was race fit at the time....incidentally, the RSA doesn't seem to have done much harm to its combatants from last year does it, which in a race that often does simply goes to highlight once again the merit of BW and FL.

Amazes me the adamant/biligerant types on here. BW only a stayer and couldnt win a Jewson.....lol, really?....is this the horse that beat Cue Card over 2.3 at Newbury on his seasonal debut last year, when not even remotely wound up?

Im not exactly saying my opinion on the Jewson and RSA so much as what i think trainers may do.
I can honestly see a lot of them thinking along the lines of Mullins last year with Sir Des Champs,and running their Gold Cup type horses over the shorter trip in their novice season. They would get valuable experience of the festival still,but would not have to go 3m if their trainer dont want them too.Also i think it a fair point that the Jewson is run on the Gold Cup course and the RSA is not.Think thats right!! |
