The fact he also has Tarla gives him that option for sure

Are you suggesting he doesn't really rate the Mare's race and has been running scared of Big Bucks?
Report chelters16 December 18, 2012 11:39 AM GMT
I believe WM has made his feelings on this subject pretty clear and is a WH(without BB)any more prestigious than another mares only...............on the balance of probability if fit will go for the mares as she would be no certainty in the WH,as Willie says" a winner at Cheltenham is all that matters".
Report roobuck December 18, 2012 11:46 AM GMT
This may be wide of the mark, but might she need a run first to optimise her performance enough to win a WH? Clearly doesn't stand too much racing and he'll want to take her to Punchestown.

With prize money four times higher and the likely availability of Ruby, he'd be very very tempted.
Report red and white December 18, 2012 12:25 PM GMT
I doubt he'd show himself to have been so craven, having not put her in the World Hurdle before, but I certainly wouldn't put it past Mullins.

i think she has nothing to lose by going for wh....owes connections ,trainer and punters nothing...give her a chance to show how good she really is...will win world hurdle if allowed to run !!good luck to all

Could run in both?
Report ReaseHeath December 18, 2012 3:03 PM GMT
dunno about running in both but you can bet your bottom dollar she'll be entered in both declared at 5 day stage in both and no decision will be made until overnight decs for Mares Hurdle at the earliest!

If quevega ran in the world hurdle on her own it would still be more prestigious than the horrible mares race.Grin
Report Howdi December 18, 2012 4:41 PM GMT
no chance imo

For the 2nd time today I'm in complete agreement with Howdi, I would be shocked if they switch Quevega to the World Hurdle, which she would be far from definite to win from a relative walkover in the Mares.

Willie Mullins tells OLBG that Quevega will again run in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, rather than contest the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.

Quevega to defend Mares' Hurdle crown

Updated: Tuesday, 18 Dec 2012 http://www.rte.ie

Quevega will defend her crown in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, trainer Willie Mullins told race sponsors OLBG.

Speculation had been mounting that the outstanding eight-year-old would instead run in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle after four-time winner Big Buck's was ruled out for the season on Monday.

Many bookmakers had even installed her as the new favourite for the Grade One over three miles in March.

But Mullins said on Tuesday Quevega will again be primed for the mares-only race which she has won for the last four seasons.

"She'll be going for the OLBG and not the World Hurdle," the County Carlow handler told OLBG
