Haven't seen anything on here about Hidden Cyclone since the Lexus. Anyone want to evaluate his performance? Raced a bit too keenly and jumped to the right a lot. Perhaps not going to be good enough and Leopardstown maybe sums up his level in terms of where he ranks amongst the best?
However, I am going to forgive him his Leopardstown effort. If he was to win something like the Red Mills Chase / Bobbyjo Chase / Kinlco Brae Chase, (not sure what the plan is now - maybe the Irish Hennessy?), I would make him my outsider to keep on the right side of at Cheltenham. Knowing Shark though, he'll probably be saved for Punchestown. Hidden Cyclone is a horse though that I still think can make it to the top. |

Hidden Cyclone will be given time to get over an unfortunate experience that spoilt his chance in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown.
John "Shark" Hanlon revealed that his smart chaser got worked up after slipping when going out to parade in front of the stands before the Christmas feature. After showing up well in the early stages and leading the field for a while from the sixth fence, Hidden Cyclone had spent all his energy before the business end of the Grade One over three miles and trailed home last of the eight finishers behind Tidal Bay. "He came out of the ring perfect but when they went out for the parade in front of the stands, he just slipped and from then on Andrew (McNamara, jockey) wasn't happy," said the County Carlow trainer. "He said the horse was just too hyper the whole way. He meant to jump out about fourth or fifth, but he jumped out third and after the first he was in front and he couldn't do anything about it. "It is a run we can just write off. He just wasn't used to the parade and the big day. "He's in great form, but we don't know what we are going to do with him yet. "There are plenty of graded races and we'll him in one and then make up our minds where we are going to go, whether we go for the Cheltenham Gold Cup or the Ryanair or whatever." |

All his best form is around 2.5 miles. He is another "almost" horse that would relish the Ryanair imo.
On soft ground, I think he'd have a squeak, as he ran SDC very close over 2.5 last year (based on that run you'd assume he'd have been placed in the Jewson?). As I said, on soft ground, maybe, but then that brings in my old mate Rubi Light  Gold Cup.....see Roger's post above. |

Can't argue against whats been said. My only hope for this horse that the way he ran up until being passed was extremely pleasing....he was one of, if not the best jumper in the race, and when his chance had gone (even when the first 4 past him) the jockey just dropped his hands and looked after him.. Now I know the below I can see why the jockey did what he did....he knew his chance had gone and would offer no more. So coming last tailed of does not concern me as they just got him home without getting him distressed. What would concern me is when asked to go there was no response (even taking in he was in front most of the way) and to win a Gold Cup he'll need to have more to give at the business end.
Not going to give up on him yet as I know this horse does have stamina and his placing behind SDC still has him with a shout in my humble opinion.... |

This is a classic not quite grade one horse who will mop up alot of lower grade races.
