Fly of two years ago would win easily Silly

Before last season's Champion Hurdle (and there were debates about it on here) I was well in the Hurricane Fly camp but after that limp performance at Cheltenham I wouldn't be so confident now.

It'll NEVER happen as Big Buck's WILL NOT step down as there's a very convenient grade one programme for him Sad

If Nicholls threw down the gauntlet, then I reckon Mullins would oblige, even though The Fly hasn't taken the Aintree option over the years.

Do you really think that Oscar Whisky is the best horse in training over 2.5 miles? I would back Rock On Ruby or Zarkandar to beat him over any trip. As for Big Bucks, I am just not sure. He wins very easily over 3 miles but very few horses stay 3 miles and it can give a false impression. That is why Baracouda, Big Bucks and Inglis Drever ran up such long sequences-they are hardly ever travelling like the winner at half way because the opposition often have more natural speed but can't sustain it. As BB has never run in a top class race over less than 3 miles you are guessing.

As Nichols has stated, Big Bucks wins because he stays. Its that simple

I am not going to guess what would happen to him over shorter, I expect he would think to himself 'why are these dumb asses sprinting already there is still 5 furlongs to go lol'

There 'are' still 5 furlongs... I must apologise for the increasing amount of errors in my grammar.

If there are any more errors I have not noticed, please don't highlight them it is quite upsetting.

Think the thread was meant as a bit of Fun Sage, may be wrong though.
But as theres no way to prove what would happen, not much point in taking it too seriously imo.

And yet i remember ruby saying on a number of occasions that BB wouldn't let himself down in the CHShocked

If ruby had to pick between bb and hurricane fly I'm not pretty sure he'd opt for fly
By:
duffy
When: 11 Dec 12 14:04
He'd never get off hurricane fly in a champion imo.

It'd be MADNESS to even think of getting off ANY Champion Hurdle winner (over 2M) against a paceless hurdler who's never raced at less than 3M!
Never mind a quality act like Hurricane Fly!

I think the assumption by some that HF is passed it is a bit previous myself, I wouldn't swap him for anything at the moment.

Was ment to read I'm pretty sure he'd pick fly and ment over 2 and half sorry. Typing on my mobile phone at work is a nightmare lol

Maybe Mr Nicholls will consider taking on Oscar Whisky over 2m4 at Aintree, instead of the usual formality over 3m that he runs every year.
Doubt it though, but thats the only way we will ever find out.

It would be nice to be treated to that sort of thing once in awhile....if only quevega's owners would have a crack at BB, i'm sick of listening to mullins saying, "the race is made for her" blah blah blah, my god she deserves so much more than that joke of arace, doesn't she?

Betfair should bring back the betfair million for hurdlers to run in the Long Walk, Champion Hurdle and Aintree hurdle.

Bloody good idea that one.

Maybe depends how truly run it was - if slow, Oscar, if stamina sapping, maybe BB would get away with it.

How would they bet?!

Fwiw, I am not sure I share confidence in ROR or Z beating OW - OW has beaten them whenever he has faced them (though Z certainly had an excuse at Liverpool)...

Interesting debate!

depends what other horses were in the race. if there were other horses and a really strong pace on then big bucks. if it was a 2 horse race then oscar would win.
