Last festival mobiles were a total waste of time. Course management may/may not care but if they wish to attract customers they will have to run with the times. Down the road they will in hindsight appear to have been very silly if they dont sort out the problem which I am told is really not that difficult. In general courses dont wish to upset the bookmakers but why not ban all newspapers and form books also. He who tries to stand in the way of progress etc etc.

I was going to post something similar myself...just got back last night.
Im O2/I-Phone - Friday - Worked until 1st race - then bits in between before working last race. Saturday until 1st then KO'd - worked all day on Sunday no probs. Any other networks work better ? |

That was 3G link I should have added.

Vodafone last year at the festival was awful - didn't work on any of the fours days. Any idea how they solve this problem - indeed, do the racecourse even realise its a problem. Inconvenient if trying to organise to meet up with people.

Workforce was that the 3G/WiFi or the actual phone network.
Having 30K+ people in one place is always going to put a strain on data traffic - same at quite a few sporting venues |

roo - that was 3G/wifi. would very much like them to sort the problem in time for this years festival.

My understanding is that they can bring in mobile transmitters. Four days 200,000 people at £50-60 a head plus other income. One could nearly move Cleve Hill with that kind of dosh. It will eventually happen so why not now. It is immaterial which phone and/or provider one has.

I've been to the festival the last two years and this year was noticeably worse than the year before. 2011 my O2 iPhone was fine both days I was there whereas it was awful this year. Only way round it was to ensure bets were on before arrival.
I will say though that I go to York about 6 times a year and its always perfect apart from when Frankel turned up this year - couldn't get on betfair for love nor money. Does need to be sorted as more and more people like to bet by phone and don't want to take great wads of cash with them |

I started a thread re using Betfair Mobile at this year's festival (you can find it on p4 of this forum)
For me it worked better this year (e.g. I was able to place bets on the friday - slow but it had been mostly impossible previous years). Tues => Thurs is usually fine for me |

At the back of the stand in the club enclosure last year I got 3g, anywhere else there was no chance. You need to all email Cheltenham and ask the question about mobile transmitters etc etc, the more feedback they get the more likely it is to happen

Thanks for replies. 3g works fine at Ascot, Twickenham, Arsenal.bluebirdfan is right, we should co-ordinate complaints to Cheltenham. I have already complained but no restponse
