All options are open then

By:
Hope they 'campagne' him well.
By:
Surely Mullins wouldn't give him his chase debut in the Drinmore?
By:
May want him to run this weekend for fitness but not run on terrible ground on his chasing debut
By:
Declared for a maiden hurdle at Cork on Sunday. Strange as he will surely be a short priced fav. If he wins well that will be his chasing career on hold for this year, I would imagine
By:
Owned by the same people who lost sioux les cieux so might have one run over hurdles before going chasing.

Staying hurdling, theres your Albert Bartlett horse

This really is some horse. So tempted to take 12/1 for the Neptune.
By:
Has trainer said what race he will be aimed at? Could even gofor the supreme like Cue Card, Al Ferof and the other bumper winner. Vinnie something.

10/1 with Hills to win any race is the bet - dont b backin him for a particular race as he could end up in any of the 3 imo
10s more than fair to wins any race |

By:
agree BJG ill have that tonight
By:
mullins doesnt even tell ya which race their running in at the 5 day decs stage, surely they must know, they just dont want us peasants to know !
By:
of course they know. whatever race they're going for affects they training. if a horse is going for the supreme then they will do faster work if they go for the neptune then they will do training that will help them settle and help them with their stamina. everything has to go perfect in the build up to Cheltenham so i doubt trainers will want to switch races within days of the horse running. even horses having to be at the course for another night or 2 could do damage to their chances. horses could be beat before they even run.
By:
i agree with you giggsy, they just dont want punters to know !

24 Nov 12 00:21 of course they know. whatever race they're going for affects they training nonsense |
By:
how is it NONSENSE? if u were going to run in a 100m race u would do speed training if u are running the 800m u would do more stamina training. with horses its even more important because the horse doesn't know what distance it's going to run.
By:
you are talking about the difference between two miles and two and half miles. The comparision between 100m and 800m is bonkers. Percentage wise the difference is huge.
Personally I dont think the training would be any different for 2 and 2.5m horses. Willie may know which races he wants, he probably does, but he wont tell anyone until the day. |
By:
we'll agree to disagree.
By:
Sintonian, you're absolutely right. Trainer probably has a preference but why would he state it now, when much can happen over the winter and other factors - opposition, ground - will come into play nearer the time. Cheltenham offers multiple options nowadays, and the prices reflect that. You can second guess the trainer if you wish, but the implication that trainers should be keeping punters aware of their intentions is miles off the mark.
By:
i agree that it's far to early to commit to a race that is over 3 months away. but surley a week before the race a trainer knows what it's going for. unless something drastic happens to a race to make a trainer change his mind i.e. big bucks, sprinter sacre, quevega not running due to injury a trainer really should know and tell the public what race he will run in.
By:
I can see a very late decision being made as Don Cossack will likely have the option of a couple of the nov hurdles up until just before the festival.
By:
Disagree giggsy. Remember that Hardy Eustace was due to run in the Coral Cup off top weight, but the trainer changed his mind at the last minute, reportedly on no more than a hunch, according to his son. It didnt make much of a splash at the time, because he was a rank outsider, but such a case does highlight the issue a trainer would face by committing and then changing his mind. Similarly, in the novice races going considerations would clearly affect many calculations as to whether to go an extra half mile or not.
As for Don Cossack, I see no dilemma, as outlined on the DC thread. Can't see beyond the Neptune; trainer has stated he'll aim at "one of the staying races" and, with the speed to win easily at 2 miles, there will be no need to go three. The Neptune's also a more prestigious race than the AB, and Elliot has said many times he'll be looking after the horse this season, which I don't think would include a three mile slog. |
By:
CYCLOPS whos side are u on? do u work in the mullins stable? lol. i do agree with u'r point about don cossack. i would like to see him win as easily on good ground before i put any money on him. i know that by running on soft/heavy ground all season doesn't mean u cant win at cheltenham on good (cinders and ashes last seaosn) but it would put u'r mind at ease to see him do it just once.
By:
giggsy, I don't think you'll be seeing that this winter, especially in Ireland but, if he did prove beforehand he was as effective on good ground, he wouldnt be anywhere near the current 10/1. You either make the leap of faith, which is priced up very fairly still for me, or hope its a soft ground festival, or look elsewhere.
By:
No one is forced to bet ante-post so it's no good whining about it. Either go with your own hunch (as me and Cyclops have done big style on Don Cossack
in the Neptune) or if you want certainty just wait until the final decs. In the long run the 2nd option is probably the better bet but where's the fun![]() |
