Cheltenham Festival

Decided to stay over night on occasion this year./ Don't want anything flash in fact I'm happy with basic - any suggestions with prices....

Around this time last year I booked the Gloucester Twigworth Premier Inn for £200 altogether for Monday night and Tuesday. Was good value, but being stuck in Gloucester was a bit of a pain.
This year we're only doing Tuesday but staying the night on Monday in a studio apartment right in the centre of Cheltenham. Sleeps 3 of us, and it was £100. Bargain. Central Studios on Portland Street I believe, could be worth checking out! |

We just stay in Brum and get the train in. Bit of a pain but mega cheap - the Premier Inn Waterloo st, right near New St station is £30 ish per night per room at the moment...

I do the same but a tip AVOID the return train thats MADCHESTER bound as its mental, for some reason the Tuesday of the Festival is by far the worst.

We tend to stop around a 30min drive away from Cheltenham, big difference to your punting funds between paying £100 for a room for a night and £20

Cheltenham Tourist Board have details of people locally prepared to do B&B for punters - £40/£50 a night? Nearer the time, there will be ads in the Racing Post advertising accommodation. |

I think we'll be staying in Worcester this year.
20 mins on the train from Cheltenham and £15 per person per night - last train back is about 10:30, so no rush to get back to the station. We've stayed in Bristol the last couple of years but last year was really quiet for some reason - staying in a big city in mid week, if you don't know the area and are in the wrong place at the wrong time, the place can be deserted (I'm some areas were chocker but we couldn't find them). The idea behind Worcester is that because it's smaller, hopefully people will be concentrated in one place (well thats the theory anyway  |

Also, if its not the festival we just drive down and back on the same day (about a 280 mile round trip)

I was in Bristol last year too, which beat Swindon the year before. But I agree, the two nights a mate and I went out we were very disappointed with what was on offer. We weren't looking for much either - we just wanted a pint in a nice, busy pub, but couldn't find one. Am coming round to the idea that it's better to drive in each day and just stay 30-40 mins outside somewhere nice. The train is more of a hassle than you think it'll be and they don't run quite late enough for you to really get the benefit of drinking in the town afterwards, |

we used to stay in a static mobile home in childswickham about 5 mins from broadway,great site,couple of decent pubs in broadway notably the crown and trumpet.only about half hour drive to cheltenham.cant remember exact price but wasnt expensive split between a few mates.

living in worcester i would recommend it 20 mins on train and a fairly lively city centre i gotta a spare room £25 a night if anyones interested i will going racing 2 days myself so theres a lift if anyones interested

I also had a stay in Bristol last year,couldn't find "the main part of town" but had a good jolly up all the same.As someone earlier points out,what you save on hotels etc can have a big help on your punting funds.In previous years i have stayed in loads of places in Cheltenham paying premium cash just for basically a roof and a bed (cos after all,it's the festival so it's races and pub time) and so that's why last year decided on Bristol for a change.I am now happily booked up in a travelodge for 3 nights costing a grand total of £36 (got it on a sale earlier this year).It was roughly £8 return to Chelts and back on train and last train leaves Cheltenham around 23.30 so does the trick for me.£200+ a night is now a distant past and cant see me paying that kind of cash again just for the sake of it. |

We have stayed in Worcester for the last couple of years. Bed and breakfast isn't anything special, buti t does us. Big pub next door and a few more down the road. Football always on a few race goers to have a chat with. Beats staying in the car at the prince of Williams stadium.

If anyone wants B&B within genuinely walkable distance from the course, I know that these people have availability.
