not the best subject to start a thread i know, but it would be handy to have some idea how such an injury affects a horse ,seems to me that it can take a good while to recover ,weapons amnesty (think he had a tendon injury ) and he has missed 2 seasons ,last instalment and invictus both rumoured to have similar setbacks ,have any horses ever recovered or bettered previous form after a lay off from similar injuries  or is it downhill from there .
as an  ante post backer i would like to know a bit more about the effect of these injuries .
must be very difficult for a trainer of a steeplechaser getting one back to the racecourse after a similar injury ,how hard do you school him at home  to get him back to fitness ? try to hard and risk him breaking down again ,go too easy on him and the risk is that that you have a horse 70% fit jumping fences at speed .
hard to get the fine line that is needed to get the horse back racing  imo but then again i know nothing about this subject .

Going back a bit Foyles, but Aldaniti had several lay-offs with his tendons, life threatening at one point I think.

I think Neptune Collonges suffered a tendon injury in his second Gold Cup which kept him out for 18 months?

It's a term that covers lots of things because (like us) horses have a lot of tendons - for example, isn't last instalment's injury to his back rather than his legs? These injuries also vary greatly in severity, from the tendon almost being severed to tendon sheath injuries (Masterminded?), to tears and strains. Denman retired with a strain from which he would be expected to make a full recovery but he was retiring at the end of the season anyway. Obviously the more severe, the less likely a recovery....
