He should on the formbook finished a lot closer in the World Hurdle imo. Oscar Whiskey didn't appear to stay but this one had no such excuse.

Maybe, but my view is he was just beaten by a much better horse, possibly still the best NH horse in training. OW and TS tried to go with Big Buck's as he accelerated from the second last, didn't close a yard and that was their race run. Nothing can gallop as fast for as far as BB. In the end TS was 12 l behind which is about right on ORs (though heaven knows what BB's true rating is).
The French CH is a decent consolation prize though - only £10k less than the World Hurdle, a far weaker race, and less of a test of stamina because it's flat and the first 3 m are usually walked. |
