another cracking festival with some superb performances and roll on next years extravaganza! after some time to reflect i think it may be advantageous to take some lessons learned from this years jaunt .
lesson no.1 . hendo is the most succesfull festival trainer of all time for a reason , his grade 1 horses must not be underestimated ! especially if they have seemed to underperform in their prep races ,i e finians rainbow ,bobs worth ect,these 2 didnt set the world alight in there races before the festival and were somewhat overlooked in the champion and r.s.a chases thus going off at decent prices and improving 5-10 lbs on the previous runs , what we must take into account is that hendo invariably has his horses 110/% for the festival and they must be forgiven a seemingly inferior previous run .
no.2 and very important this one thier are no certanties at the festival ( okay quevega and big bucks eceptions the last 3 years ) but seriously folks the festival is the one meeting where every horse is trying for its life ! a lot of people thought that hurricane fly was a forgone conclusion for the champion hurdle, indeed one forumite even suggested that if hurricane fly turns up 80/% fit the rest would be playing for the places !
3. also it pays to go into the festival with an open mind ! i.e dont get taken in by the media/ pundits and bookmakers .they had the encouraged the notion that the gold cup was a 2 horse race between kauto and long run ,well we know what happened there !
i have suggested a few lessons here i am sure there are many informed forumites on here who can add a good few more suggestions in the quest for pointers for next years festival that we can all benefit from and ensure a profitable festival for all of us ! keep em coming lads and remember only another

I'd agree with 3. Had been opposing Kauto due to his age and thought all year that Long Run hadn't looked the same horse this season (and was even questioning how good last year's gold cup was)
Got sucked in on the day and backed him, although I did also back Synchronised without the "big 2" |

dont lump on the Neptune winner for the Supreme...even if he is the best 2m hurdler in the land

Hurdling and Jumping a fence are 2 different disciplines. As different as 5 Furlong race at Epsom and 1 mile race at Newmarket. Being able to one of them doesn't mean you can do the other.
Hendersons horses are always trying. JonJo's horses are always trying in Grade 1's, for example Albertas Run every year and the sadly departed Synchronised. Ferdy Murphy has not got a plot every year. Don't be afraid to back the stable 2nd or 3rd string in a handicap. Sometimes the Jockey booking is more important than the form shown by the horse. |

You should have already kept the results from the Festival and Aintree in a folder so you can re read them around late feburary
