He'll end up being the oldest novice chaser in town but will still have a significant advantage over Washington Irving simply through being "not dead at present..."

Regardless of the washing machines mortal status, he did finish 4th in a Derby and is therefore a shoe-in when eventually facing Dunguib (or for that matter Sprinter Sacre), you heard it here first folks!!!!

Philip Fenton is contemplating giving Dunguib a comeback run on the Flat before putting him over fences.

The 2009 Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper winner, and 2010 Deloitte Novice Hurdle victor, has been sidelined with heat in a tendon since finishing eighth to Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March 2011.

The County Tipperary trainer had been pleased with Dunguib following several months on a horse walker and was happy to step the nine-year-old up to road work.

"He's in good form and back on the roads every day so we're hoping we'll get him out in two or three months' time," said Fenton.

"We're getting there step by step.

"We first put him out for a little bit of grass and he has been on the go since.

"His legs seem quite good so we're just hoping we can get a couple of seasons out of him.

"I wouldn't mind if I started him in a Flat race before he went over fences.

"We'll see how we go, but the idea may be to start him off in a Flat race. He's still a good horse."

This ties in nicely with the thread about horses returning as good as they were after injury,Dunguib was impressive in the Champion bumper and the Deloitte but was always VERY ground dependant, but would be interesting to see if it will be better over fences as wasnt the slickest jumper of a hurdle.

Fenton also had news of high-class hurdler Dunguib, who has been sidelined with injury since last March.

The nine-year-old will be an exciting addition to the novice chasing scene.

"Dunguib is in good form and I'm very happy with him at this stage," said the County Tipperary handler.

"He's obviously been off a long time but he's pleasing me at home.

"The plan would be for him to go straight over fences, but we'll see how he gets on when he starts schooling."
