Remember the name. Should have really won the hot bumper today despite pulling most of the way. Sent on a bit early but it was still a run full of serious promise for me.

No question MM, looks a horse of serious potential and class.

Ran an eye catching race for sure. Not sure how 'hot' that bumper was myself though... lots of immature / backward / green looking types to me. Will be surprised if the front two turn out to be top class.
Report VikingRidge April 13, 2012 11:35 PM BST
Aparently they think rather a lot of this one. Was told a while ago he was a very very good creature. She had a shocker tbh, was pulling from the off yet not once did she try and get him cover? Sat him very wide through out.
Report R Carver April 20, 2012 1:13 PM BST
Entered next week.
Report CVByrne April 20, 2012 2:39 PM BST
He wont run in that 9k flat race on Tuesday. But will likely run in one of the good bumpers at the Punchy fest.
Report R Carver April 20, 2012 5:36 PM BST
That is my assumption.
Report CVByrne April 22, 2012 7:10 PM BST
May actually run in that race Shocked

Not in any of the other entries at Punchy. Unless runs on Sat.

Will hopefully be seeing this chap in the next couple of weeks now Henderson has started to get going. Good to see the form of his bumper working out so well.
Report R Carver November 19, 2012 4:14 PM GMT
Absolutely MM. I suspect Snake was probably slightly more forward for the race than the others (though given the size of that pot, maybe not) but the form is rock solid and he should have beaten them easily. The 2lb he got from the 2 in front was more than given back by the jockey. This horse could be the real deal, assuming usual progression.
Report Masterminded November 19, 2012 6:38 PM GMT

Did you notice Mono Man is back in training this season. Also the stable has his brother Act Four.

Report Can't Catch Me November 19, 2012 7:09 PM GMT
Mm. Why do you think the form of his bumper has worked out particularly well?
Report Masterminded November 19, 2012 7:41 PM GMT
I feel the first 3 are very smart horses. Snake Eyes was apparently Nicky's best bumper horse and they were quite annoyed he didn't win. Clondaw has come out and bolted up and The Liquidator ran in a very hot bumper on Sunday which contained some very well fancied horses. He actually fared the best of the 4yo's in 2nd place by some way in very testing ground. You can see why the 6 yo would have been stronger up the hill running off level weights. It's only my opinion though feel free to disagree.
Report Can't Catch Me November 19, 2012 7:51 PM GMT
Respect your opinion mate, hence the reason I asked, just don't think the form amounts to much yet. And I didn't think that was a great bumper on Sunday tbh. Only time will tell I suppose!

Think Snake Eyes will prove to be a lot better than the rest of the field he encountered first time up.
Report Masterminded November 19, 2012 7:57 PM GMT
Yep it may work out that way and can see the other side but there were a lot of big reputations in Sundays race. Nicholls' big money horse has been flying up the gallops.
Report R Carver November 20, 2012 10:56 AM GMT
Hi MM, yes I did notice that excellent news about MM. The suggestion seemed to be that he may not run this yr, so this is terrific news. Who knows whether he can fulfil his promise, he is currently 6, he seems not to be the easiest to keep sound, but he looked to be an outstanding prospect when winning his bumpers, and that form is strong IMO. Like you, I am firmly in his fan club. As for targets, assuming he has retained his ability and can progress, I would not think he would be a supreme horse, more a Neptune / Albert Bartlett type. We will see, but great to see him back, he is smahing, proper looking horse.

Btw, regarding the Sunday bumper, I actually thought it looked smart. No idea how it will turn out, but I thought it ran like a good bumper and I took a positive view of it. Nicholls rarely puts the gun to his bumper horses so I can see the expensive Hales horse improving in time but he travelled great (as he did at Carlisle) and I firmly believe The Liquidator is above average. We will see.
Report liam the lips November 20, 2012 11:25 AM GMT
Danny Mullins certainly thought the winner was smart, apparently schooled over hurdles and fences ! A good point made about 4yo against their elders, its an angle im fond of, alas not on Sunday.

The sort of 'effort' that gets one a decent mark for a race like the County Hurdle, a watching brief.
Report Masterminded November 26, 2012 9:10 PM GMT
Can't get away from it being a disappointment getting turned over but I certainly won't be giving up on him after that. He did a lot of things well and ultimately got tired on soft ground after having his head pulled for the majority of the race. I would be disappointed if he wasn't better than just a county hurdle horse but you never really know with JP's horses.
Report Tory November 26, 2012 9:51 PM GMT
Lets not forget that cinders lost first time out last year - not saying though that up against same calibre of oppo.

However, he was 25 lengths clear of 3rd, pulled hard all the way round, got boxed in a few out and had to wait for the course to open, by which time the eventual winner had stolen a big march. First run of season and soft ground. Personally, he would have won had the winner not been able to get so far ahead and we'd all be saying that it was a satisfactory result first time out.

Needs to learn to settle and obviously come on for that, but don't think it's all over
Report Howdi November 26, 2012 9:56 PM GMT
it aint a good start though for those who were snapping up 20-1 Laugh
Report Tory November 26, 2012 10:00 PM GMT
No, you're correct there. But you would never get over committed at this stage on a horse which has only ever run once.

I've got two small £15 bets on him and Tistory. More to keep me entertained for a few months than anything but both in the 30's.
Report R Carver November 26, 2012 11:03 PM GMT
Tory, I agree with all of your first post. All is not lot, far from it, he was also pretty green in front.
Report giggsy3444 November 27, 2012 11:35 AM GMT
"pretty green in front"? he was in front for 100yds. he pulled, got boxed in and had to make up 10 lengths off the home turn and got tired. he jumped well and will be better for the run and better ground. start worrying if it happens next time but until then he still looks a promising horse.
Report gutfeeling November 27, 2012 12:17 PM GMT
I guess no-one had the balls to ask Henderson/JP or AP about the result
Report giggsy3444 November 27, 2012 12:26 PM GMT
henderson said "It was going really well until the end-it was maybe the soft ground and the fact that the horse is a big baby. He jumped great and i'm sure we'll find a race for him." i wouldn't give up on him just yet.
Report gutfeeling November 27, 2012 12:37 PM GMT
Thanks Giggsy3444
I won't be discounting him yet,Unlike Henderson to turn them out quickly i know but he does hold entries at Newbury,We will see how this one develops.

hope he's not 1 of those horses that u keep backing but keep flattering to decieve.
Report Tory November 27, 2012 12:51 PM GMT
I tweeted AP for his thoughts - I.e, way race panned out or just not good enough and didn't get a response. Wasn't expecting one really but thought I had nothing to lose in asking
Report R Carver November 27, 2012 1:33 PM GMT
Giggsy, yes, I agreed with all of what Toy said and added (in further mitigation for the horse) that he was also perhaps a bit green in front. Uncontroversial, surely?
Report Masterminded November 27, 2012 4:06 PM GMT
Will say again I think there were plenty of positives to take from yesterdays race. Remember Sprinter Sacre's debut over hurdles? I had the same feeling yesterday. He undeniably has plenty of talent and IMO if given his head earlier and allowed to get into a rhythm he would have won yesterday albeit it may have been hard work in the ground. I'm not sure if McCoy is riding to instructions but he's given a few very poor rides this season and without slating him I was less than impressed with the ride yesterday. It's hard work to pick horses up from a poor position in the ground and while the horse did what was required he just blew up before the line. He was carrying a little condition as you would expect going into his first run of the season and hopefully, as it goes on he will improve. I really do doubt JP came over on a wet and cold Monday afternoon at Kempton to watch his County hurdle hope lets put it that way.
Report R Carver November 27, 2012 6:41 PM GMT
Grin I agree MM !
Report liam the lips November 27, 2012 8:14 PM GMT
Which ever way you look at it, he has folded twice when looking sure to win. I agree the champ wasn't at his best yday, but i doubt Snake Eyes could win the Supreme on the snaff and would therefore be worried what he could find when put under pressure.

Report R Carver November 28, 2012 12:55 PM GMT
Not many of the very best get given excuses twice, but I do think he had legitimate ones in his first run and arguably at Kempton too. I think the Irish run too showed that he did find plenty when asked because he shot clear, he just then got tired and lonely and got worried out of it.
Report Tory December 6, 2012 11:08 PM GMT

is there a problem or just an n/r due to the testing ground?
Report Tory December 19, 2012 12:48 PM GMT
Don't know but when I watched both races contested i thought the horse would be better on good ground. Soft/heavy not ideal so would be my initial thought regarding not running

Report Tory January 6, 2013 9:02 PM GMT
Due to my bet I'm hoping the supreme!! Could end up in a handicap but certainly won't be over further than 2m
Report muzza88 January 6, 2013 9:07 PM GMT
Yeah I had a word for it months ago but seems to have slightly disappointed so far so I did wonder about handicap possibilities.
Report Tory January 6, 2013 9:57 PM GMT
only one hurdles race on heavy ground and you could argue that it wasn't one of AP's finest hours. Will need to hack up next time out though if he's to end up in the Supreme
Report bluebirdfan January 7, 2013 8:40 AM GMT
Needs to be winning cosily on the bridle next time out for them to consider Supreme
Report Fallen Angel January 7, 2013 2:43 PM GMT
Assume they want to target this horse in a race with less testing ground. Remember that was the reason it was pulled out of the Newbury encounter. As tory has stated entered for Huntingdon although Henderson has a good few entered including a french import.
Report Tory February 18, 2013 2:13 PM GMT
This one is getting heavily entered up at the moment. Misses Taunton tomorrow but still in at Doncaster and sandown. Could it still end up at chelt in the coral cup or county hurdle? Cheers
