Apart from the obvious ones like Simonsig, Sprinter Sacre and Sir Des Champs; what are people's thoughts on some of the good novice prospects that ran at this year's Festival?

I like the look of Cue Card and Champion Court for the Ryanair next year, and it will be interesting if Cotton Mill is dropped to 2m next year.  For Non Stop looks one for the King George for me as well after his Jewson run.

I was at Wetherby when Countrywide Flame was beaten earlier in the season, so can't have any from the Triumph Hurdle.  Also, there wasn't anything in the Supreme that I'd be in a hurry to back - Cinders and Ashes clearly has an engine but will have to improve his jumping.

There are others like Fingal Bay and Invictus that missed the Festival, and Waheeb could easily put in a few good performances in the 2 mile division in Ireland (although very difficult obviously), he was favourite for the Supreme when being withdrawn.

I also wouldn't be in a hurry to back Boston Bob or Brindisi Breeze for next year's RSA.

Aintree may give us more clues, and not suggesting backing anything now, but would be interested if anyone has any opinions.

Last Instalment and Flemenstar who missed this Festival also look very promising.

I like Champion Court for some of the autumn Cheltenham handicaps and FNS for some handicaps as well.

From left field, Pepitte Rose looks a beautiful prospect for something like the Hennessey.

Trifolium, Arkle Cool

Super Duty of McCain might pick up a nice pot or two. Unbeaten when completing (was still in it at Ayr when falling)

Form closely linked with Cinders and Ashes if you use Keys as a yardstick

Not keen on Cinders or Brindisi, though brindisi hurdles absolutely brilliantly.

Brindisi is a future star imo.

Do we know which of the Supreme Novice horses will go chasing and which will stay hurdling?

Trifolium defo goes chasing, Giggy only ever buy chasers.

What are peoples thoughts on Steps to Freedom making a chaser?

I'm following Waheeb blind next term, adored my name, and he managed to give him a seriously good race (was getting weight though). May

Byrnes talking about Trifolium

"I'm not sure what we'll do next season. It will be up to the owners (Gigginstown House Stud) but given how many chasers they have already, this lad could stay over hurdles."

Wot av giggy got for Arkle? Midnight Game?

Giggy like chasers. But Byrnes knows it's good for him picking up some soft ground races in Ireland over hurdles.

I thought you said he definitely goes chasing CVB? Was that just your assumption then?
Report CVByrne April 23, 2012 11:27 PM BST
All good Giggy horses go chasing. They only ever want chasers. Only the odd few are kept handicap hurdling after their novice season.

So I thought it was safe to assume Trifolium would follow the normal way and go chasing. I think he will, but maybe if they've now too many chasers, well that's something I didn't factor, it's a first.

I've him backed for Arkle anyway so no turning back now Happy

Trifolium doesnt look a chaser to me
Report bluebirdfan April 25, 2012 1:56 PM BST
Agreed, Gigginstown only usually want chasers just wasn't sure with this one thats why I asked. Has there been any mention of Steps to Freedom and why he's disappointed?
