Just a few that caught my eye.
Prospect Wells was staying on well and would have been placed in another 10 strides. A handicap over 2.5 would be interesting.
Galileo's Choice was given a ridiculous amount to do from the top of the hill and might be a different proposition next time.
Quevega looked impressive again but she has yet to take on anything except the same old bunch of mares and the placed horses are very ordinary.
Hunt Ball won despite some poor jumping and seems to have no limit to his improvement.
Simonsig won as he liked from 2 Irish horses. The rest of the English staying novice hurdlers, apart from Brindisi Breeze, are moderate.
Balgarry was given an aggressive ride and might improve a bit more if held up longer. Kazlian ditto.
The New One struck me as a horse to follow over hurdles next season.
Captain Chris could still win an important prize if they can get him to concentrate early in the race. Blinkers?
Dodging Bullets and Pearl Swan both ran well for a yard in moderate form and might both be very good.
Oiseau De Nuit looks nailed on for a 2 mile handicap at the next Cheltenham meeting.

Sir Deschamps - can go all the way to the top
Champion Court - beaten by a very good horse in a very fast time, has a big race in him Cotton Mill - still think he had more to give something just freaked him Smad Place - remarkable performance for a young horse The Cockney Mackem - now they have seemingly found his trip! Salsify - loved the way he stayed on and can take higher grade than hunter chases, maybe a national horse one day? He'd be headed for the Irish national if he were mine! |

I assume you are talking about the ones that ran at Cheltenham as I think Fingal Bay may be even better. Cannot really disagree with any of the horses put up - I would also suggest Glam Gerry |

Yes, sorry, I did mean the ones that ran. Fingal Bay looks exceptional. Grand Vision was not good enough to get into the Pertemps but was able to finish a commendable third in the staying novice. Puts them into perspective.

Thought the Supreme was a muddling pace and Prospect Wells needs a strong pace. Also a bit of buffeting cost him ground. Also, it was hard to make up ground on the Tuesday and I think he ran a huge race all things considered. Be very interested in coming targets.

Of the losers, Cotton Mill is definitely one to take away for me. Who knows what might have happened, but him and Simonsig would have been miles clear of the rest. Don't know what plans there are for next year, but I think he's got some big wins in him.
Also, Cue Card for next year's Ryanair. If there are some good double figure prices around when the bookies price the market, he is one I want to be on the right side of. Zarkandar in the Champion ran a weird race; and if he can have a proper prep next year I want to keep on the right side of him in the Champion or World Hurdle. I think his price might drift if he doesn't perform at Aintree, so will wait until after then. |

Toner D"oudairies is a cert next time if held on to a bit longer. He kicked on way to early and was only beaten a neck. Compensation awaits!

desert cry made up a ridiculous amount of ground in the county, have a look at it again if you hadn't noticed it, into the straight he's in 23rd place on the stands rail and at the line he's 9th having been switched across to the inside of the track.

Agree that Desert Cry made ground, but he has become very moody and was not co-operating at all in the first mile. Leave him alone would be my advice.

Captain Chris back over 3 miles on a RH track. He finished best of all in the Ryanair, having being tapped for toe turning in and jumping right at every fence.
I would like to see Zarkander over 2.5m at Aintree in a few weeks. Again, he just got done for toe but flew up the hill. I suspect 2m might be on the sharp side, but then the trainer wasn't happy with his condition pre-race, so......... Cotton Mill, I'm not saying he would've won. But he didn't look like stopping and the winner is clearly very smart. Wherever he goes next, I'll be involved. Lovcen out of the Albert Bartlett, was never doing a tap and Choc was at him all the way round. Not helped by being trapped on the rail and jumping left, how he finished 4th I don't know. Doesn't look a chasing type to me, but in staying h'cap hurdle he would potentially have a very workable mark as that wasn't his running at all. |

Oscar Nominee - never travelling on the last day, jumping wasn't geeat yet still rocketed up the hill for a close up 3rd

 Off the bridle all the way, give this one another 2 furlongs next time out or softer ground and keep on your side. |

Had a sizeable wedge on Cotton Mill at 25/1 e/w. Followed the horse all season. The mere sight of the horse's name still fills me with a sick feeling one week on!

How did you view his fall Glossy? Will you try tio get it back or avoid him like the plague. I will sit and watch his next run or perhaps back to lay in case he does it again.

Soux Les Cieux is accumulating these strange runs. No matter what distance it runs at, it seems not to travel but then stays on at the end, when it's all too late. A successor to Tidal Bay perhaps!
sageform - dependent on the price and the competitiveness of the race I may have a small punt. Have watched it a hundred times over and still can't entirely work it out. Jumps the hurdles so well, I can only assume something spooked the horse. Sunlight reflected into the eyes or something. |

I only had 5 or 6 bets during the week and 3 of them were eye catching albeit not necessairly with a view to backing again.
I backed Vulcanite (Supreme), Thousand Stars (World) and Balgarry (Coral) and all 3 travelled like the winner before going out like a light coming round the final bend. All 3 did too much upfront I know, but i am curious if any informed judges have a view on these 3 beasts, particuarly with respect to future engagements/punting opportunities. Cheers |

Balgarry was given an over aggressive ride and can win again soon but I was a bit disappointed with Vulcanite at Newbury and don't think he will improve. Thousand Stars has a lot of miles on the clock so will be hard to place.

One piece of betting advice. At Christmas time Mullins was questioned about Thousand Stars Cheltenham objectives. Mullins replied by saying his main target was the AINTREE hurdle. He didnt really seemed interested about Cheltenham with the horse. I think thats mainly because he knew thousand wouldnt beat Hurricane or Big Bucks. Thousand lost by a deminishing short head in last years Aintree Hurdle race, and that is when you should have your money down on him. Oscar Whisky will again be his main threat, among others. i was going to mention oscar nominee,having watched the race again undoubtedly one of the unluckiest losers of the week,admittedly partly due to his lack of pcae he ended up where he was but coming to the last he looked the winner imo only for attaglance to close the door on him,then bass chose to come the other side of attaglance and got chopped off again and ended up in no mans land in the middle of the track and got beat 2 necks.

Hopefully Cotton Mill's ducking out was an aberration as he was going well. You could argue it served the trainer right for messing about with riding arrangements. I'd like to see his regular jockey back on next time but doubt it will happen now as the trainer will want to prove his point.

Of the losers, I think Becauseicouldntsee has a great chance in the national. A handy runner, jumps and travels like a dream. Proven stayer and won't mind the ground. Of just 10st 3lb I think this is nice bet.

I did mention The New One at the top of the thread but only backed him a place at Aintree as he looked a real stayer at Cheltenham. He is still my idea of the best prospect for staying novice hurdles next year.
