I think Peddlers has something hurting him. This arguement about him being bottomed is rubbish, he ran in 1 race last season that he should not have, the Aintree race, McCain has admitted he got it wrong then.So Peddlers has either gone in the head or has a problem either way it's not the trainers fault.

It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Good bunch of blokes on here who can exchange opposing opinions without calling each other 'mugs' or 'idiots'. You might crack it one day.

Tim Leslie needs to act immediately and move this horse to a top class trainer who knows what he's doing,
Willie Mullins has already proven just how incredibly inept these northern trainers are by winning race after race with the graham wylie recruits from the howard johnson yard,
if willie had peddlers cross he would turn him into a gold cup horse

Total idiots on here.
Peddlers Cross looked awesome in his first outing at Bangor, second outing was not quite as good but still impressive. Then put in his place by a truly outstanding horse in Sprinter Sacre. Probable that Peddlers Cross was not at his best that day - hence was not seen again until the festival. And anyone that can read will tell you that McCain was on record as syaing Peddlers Cross 'looks' to be coming back to himself. So that said his run yesterday was encouraging - but you could not have backed him with any confidence. Possible that he still is not quite right, or that this run will bring him on and he will be cherry ripe for Aintree, either way he is still a horse of some potential and most likely one of only a few who is capable of giving Sprinter Sacre a race in the next couple of years.

Would also add that that Sir De Champs will probably be a Gold Cup horse next year - and looks a very promising one at that. As for Champion Court, he did his trainer very very proud and surely the Paddy Power now beckons !!

Bullshit,he was beat after four fences yesterday like all the vibes said he would be.
Horse shouldnt have run simple as obviously not right.

horse has gone sour probaly doesnt like fences nothing to with mccain
By:

When: 18 Mar 12 21:05
"beaten like all the vibes said he would be"? backed from 7/2 to as low as 5/2 at one time resting at around 11/4   - 3/1, that doesnt seem the market move of a horse with"bad vibes"  . in all reality the horse just isnt as good over fences as it was over hurdles, may improve over the bigger obstacles later on in his career, probably was his worst effort over fences so far, maybe the horse may never be as good again, who knows.

He was NEVER going to make a chaser, I have been saying this since last summer (there is a thread with it on somewhere). Only now have they realised, after all the bullshit McCain had to say about them beating Sprinter as well.

Good trainer, but a clown.
By:

When: 19 Mar 12 17:00
McCain has been far too bullish with this horse he went to Kempton thinking Sprinter was going to duck out but little did he know Sprinter is a monster and he eats horses like PC for breakfast. I think he's done a poor job with the horse he's had far too many tough races and I think the tough & game Peddlers Cross has finally said I've had enough of this ****. He needs to have a nice long break to freshen up and have a go back over hurdles.

Horse clearly not as fast/fluid/brave over fences as over hurdles and they're taking the sensible route back to hurdles...

He would have been in the shake up in the CH again I'd hazard to suggest... & if he stays wld be an interesting WH entry IMVHO

He obviously ran well in the Champion last year but he was put in his place by the fly who was put in his place by Rock on Ruby and Overturn. Waste of time putting him in the champion again (that's why they switched to fences) and agree he would be interesting in the World Hurdle as he has always struck me as tenacious when on song.

My theory is that Peddlers Cross emptied himself out against Hurricane Fly in the CH.

PC has given too much he is Rafa Nadal of racehorses like Denman was. I`m not sure how people can crab Donald. After all he expanded the horses ability over hurdles. Yet i dont think PC has done anything since the CH to suggest he is the same horse.

I've never quite understood all this horses getting bottomed out stuff, now i'm no equine expert as regards to the rigours put on horses but, horses have hard races all the time, they are given the best training facilities and regimes to make sure they are primed to the minute, how can a hard race wreck one of these brutes for what seems like an absolute age, this type of thing is what they are trained to do, i can't have it at all.

Duffy

I`m sure its more of a mental thing. Some horses reach high levels because of their will to go through the pain barrier more than others of similar physical ability. Once they lose that desire to keep on pushing even though their lungs are burning, then its down hill from there.

Physiologically, they are different. Horses are more able to push themselves to the absolute limit of their capabilities than humans and so find it harder to recover from that effort. The breed has been refined down over a matter of centuries, with traits such as being unable/unwilling to make maximum effort bred out. The very best of them are able to push that tiny bit more, which is why they're in demand from breeders.
How many human athletes can you remember that have pushed themselves to the point where their heart has stopped? Bobby Simpson the cyclist, but that's about it and that was near enough 50 years ago. It happens on the racetrack with far more frequency unfortunately.
On the Grand Prix athletics circuit, you see the top humans pushing themselves to the max, then coming out and doing it again the next week. That's just not possible for a top equine athlete.

I can think of one that happened less than two weeks ago

Anyway Peddlers Cross will never be the force of old in my humble opinion.

He almost over achieved as a hurdler because he was all heart. Perhaps it is a physical problem and something is hurting him or he has decided that he does not like pushing himself anymore.

Whatever it is i would not blame the trainer.
