Racing UK - Anyone else p****d off at having to pay for a whole year?!!

i dont understand why they dont do a once off Subscription just for Cheltenham and Charge lets say £20 for coverage of the Festival then cut you off when it ends,im pretty sure lots of punters would be happy to do that and they'd make a killing too,
But their simply too mean and want people paying over a grand a year

i enjoy Horse Racing for what it is,doesn't mean i need to gamble every day of the week in order to enjoy it,
i also love football,but i don't pay 30 odd quid a month for Sky Sports just so i can gamble on it,
Racing is minority sport,football is a huge worldwide brand so i can understand how Sky get away with charging 30 odd quid a month for their services,

i do however fail to see how a Company like RUK can get away with charing 20 pound a month in order to watch a minority sport that very few have an interest in,but when there's idiot's such as your good self out there then it becomes a lot easier to understand

Right so you love it but you expect it to be free do you?  Grow up these companies exist to make money by providing a service, one that we could not get before Sky.

I like a bet but can and have lived without betting, however I love horse racing and just cannot afford £20 a month at the moment having been made redundant a couple of months ago.

I completely disagree with any of us having to pay for Racing UK and while were at it, also the Racing Post membership. As CleverName says this is a minority sport and, quite rightly, the big chiefs are always wanting to attract more racegoers and therefore bettors to sustain and grow the sport in the future. Having all courses and information free to air/internet would dramatically increase the chances of this and if the BHB/Racing For Change people are serious then they should be looking at doing something proactive for once.

I cancelled my RUK subscription after last years Festival. I would consider myself a horse racing gambler (as I do it everyday of the week) but I refuse to pay RUK's monthly subscription. Is that tight? yes probably in the scheme of things. Have I missed it? No not really, if I want to watch a race on RUK there's plenty of bookmakers, including here, that broadcast it on the web for free and I rarely bet in play nowadays due to the sat delays anyway.

If anything I would say not having it has probably assisted in my betting for the simple reason that instead of now looking at every single race meeting in the UK every week I now concentrate on the races that I get live on ATR.

But then Cheltenham arrives and I think oh damn. So plan B kicks in - one day (maybe two) at the meeting others in local pub with RUK or those not on terrestrial watch online. So my annual saving on RUK essentially pays for a day at the races, thanks RUK and you can stick your annual membership and please stop mailing me with x-rays of Ruby Walsh and the like!

Totally agree with Steamer. £5 per week is a pittance. Third of the cost of the Racing Post for a week.All the major meetings covered apart from Ascot. In depth coverage with knowledgeable presenters
Dont know how anyone can state that £5 per week stops them having a decent bet

As a side point it would be interesting to know how much it actually costs the industry by having the Cheltenham festival on RUK. Here I'm referring to the casual punters that like a bet on the big race meetings like the Grand National. For example my parents aren't particular regular racing viewers but when I saw them the other day my Dad had worked out his selections but is only actually having a bet in the races featured on terrestrial tv. Admittedly this would be the main races of the day but I know he used to bet through the card when it was all on and he's certainly not one to bother viewing online anywhere and was definitely a bookie benefit

Its a shame the last 2 races arent on E4 or another of there channels they seem to have plenty of them on freeview.

The bottom line is that if you go to the same pool you will run out of fish eventually if it isn't restocked. You can work it for a time as they have with boxing but increasingly it will become a niche sport and an irrelevance. It will be then that the animal rights nutters will have the upper hand. Racing will die because there are two few enlightened people able and/or willing to broaden its appeal.

I think NH racing is pretty much a niche sport.I cant see how RUK can possible play a part in the death of racing. If you take the sport seriously and love the game which I do,and im sure you do,im perfectly happy to pay a paltry sum
to watch the best NH racing in the world, in its entirety. I dont think that a couple of shoulder races makes any difference in the long term as its not just about the major meets.What are the people moaning about RUK going to do when they want to see decent meetings midweek?
RUK offers a product like any other retailer,TV or otherwise.If you like the product and can afford it you buy it. Theres a demand,obviously, and all they are doing is giving their customers what they want,at a very reasonable cost
