PP are a £2.2 billion pound (market cap) company currently......they would love nothing more than for SS to win and refund all losing bets in the arkle, they can easily afford it and its priceless publicity, I dont think as some have suggested on here that the 'brains' at PP know it wont win hence the promo......I think they want to appear to get properly turned over on 1 race in several thousand in the year, they can afford the hit.

Al Ferof winning will probably be their worst result.  But yes they obviously can afford it.  Last 3 years have more than made up for any losses incurred

It's a ploy to put people off from backing SS. It probably saves them money.

The potential blow to their profits would also have been softened by the money they took on Pedlers Cross, before they went NRNB.

The main thing about this promo is it attracts a wedge of money into PP's account.  Regardless of whether SS wins or not, most of the people betting will spunk the winnings back on PP over the course of the week.

Everybody loads up their PP account at the start of the busiest gambling week of the year. How much of the drop do they eventually get?
