Not much has been said on here regards So Young; and barely a peep out of Mullins.

The horse now only holds a World Hurdle entry.

Form this year……not bad at all, especially the way he dispatched of Trifolium last time out.

Cheltenham form: travelled into the last in the Neptune last year very threateningly….spanked the last, lost momentum but it didn’t stop the horse which often happens to tired horses. No stamina worries then. Form of the Neptune doesn’t look too bad now either.

C0rals are going 16/1 on this fella, which I think is too big as the evidence is sufficient to say that it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the ‘world’ if he upstaged Big Bucks….a shock though. But you get a bigger surprise when you look in the w/o Big Bucks market. C0rals are prepared to go 8/1….even after extracting a 4/9 shot from the betting!

If you have copies of the Weatherby’s Guide (Paul Jones), and the Racing Post equivalent the horse gets a bit of a mention. Indeed such is the intrigue of the horse that the RP scribe has selected the horse to place in whatever race it would go for (including the Champion Hurdle at the time of print).

In the Paul Jones book the horse crops up in the Q&A sections. The recurring theme though is that he’s caught the eye of the pro punters, but has been overlooked somewhat by the tv pundits. Who’s advice of those would you be taking?

The 8/1 in the w/o Big Bucks market (inc. ¼ odds 1,2,3) looks the outstanding bet available of the festival as I post this topic up.

I agree he is a massive price ew without Big Bucks.  Horse has really come this year
Report buddeliea March 9, 2012 8:28 PM GMT
Agree, ran well this season and may have won the Neptune last season or certainly gone close anyway.
Big player in the WHurdle with or without the fav.

Mullins comments on the horse;

"We fancied him for the Neptune last year but he didn’t get the run of the race and a mistake at the last ended any chance he had, and then the wheels came off at Punchestown. I’ve been very pleased with his three wins this season - admittedly they’ve been at a lower level, but to beat Trifolium over two miles giving him 5lb at Navan must have been a fair effort bearing in mind what he did next time. So Young is definitely improving and is a much stronger horse this year; his pedigree and run style both suggest that he wants a trip so if he does travel the World Hurdle will probably be the race and he’s definitely got the ability to be competitive there."

thanks Andy. I hadn't seen that comment.

I'm not sure if he is guaranteed to be running.  Mullins still has 6 entries and with the exception of Quevega all of them could feasibly run, but I doubt he would have 5 entries surely?
Report buddeliea March 9, 2012 8:46 PM GMT
different owner though
Report jasey March 9, 2012 9:29 PM GMT
This horse has the potential to be a superstar, unexposed at this trip, and surely a threat to all
Report buddeliea March 10, 2012 6:35 AM GMT
yep

Hi zaipour wont travel to cheltenham as ground not soft enough, thousands stars will be keeping hurricane fly company in the champion hurdle that will leave so young, mourad, miakel in the race.In my experience its the willie mullins horses that everyone not talking about that will come in at a good price so young hardly been mentioned at all.
Report bobbyjo March 11, 2012 8:58 PM GMT
Friendless in the main market, any word?
Report stevo1 March 11, 2012 9:17 PM GMT
Quote Mr Mullins in Post today, wouldnt want ground too quick to be seen to best effect.
Think he may be telling you wont be showing given current ground conditions maybe thats why he was/is 8s without Big Bucks.
Think may wait for Aintree/Punchestown.

Cheers
Report playthegameboy March 11, 2012 9:32 PM GMT
His owner likes a punt. Will no doubt be smashing into it in the without market. Looks nailed on for a place if the ground suits!
Report wellchief March 11, 2012 10:31 PM GMT
He's one of about six who could easily finish second to Big Bucks.  I've backed him, oscar whisky and smad place in the w/o market.

Could also make good claims for Dynaste, Thousand Stars and VLV as well.

If you take out the Champ this is one of the most open races imo.

Think its a very interesting race this year and gonna be fascinating to watch and see how Ruby deals with this new challenge.
BB has never faced a field with the quality in depth that he does here.
To me he has 4 serious challengers he has never faced before in OW,TS,SY and VLV.

This aint no foregone conclusion, and instead of having 1 serious challenger,he now has these to deal with, and with a turn on foot as well.
Interesting and for me could well be the race of the week.
Report Can't Catch Me March 12, 2012 6:34 AM GMT
I think he is very ground dependant myself. Top class horse on soft, but ally needs it to run to his best. Can't have him anywhere near the shake up on the likely fast ground.
Report jasey March 12, 2012 8:19 AM GMT
He came 3rd in the neptune last year on good ground, smashed the last hurdle.
Report buddeliea March 12, 2012 8:24 AM GMT
he did,and quiet possibly could have won the race.
if he lines up hes a player with or without the fav.

^ Oscar's Well?
Report buddeliea March 12, 2012 9:51 AM GMT
him as well, both made hash ups at the last
Report Far From Trouble March 12, 2012 9:54 AM GMT
Ah ok

Can't say I noticed So Young's I thought he was out of it by then?

Then again, I was too focussed roaring this year's RSA winner home CoolCool
Report Far From Trouble March 12, 2012 9:58 AM GMT
hmmm yeah just watched the finish, did make a mistake. Don't think it cost him victory though but would have been closer for sure

I suppose Oscar's more serious blunder take's attention off So Young, i'd never noticed that mistake before
Report jasey March 12, 2012 10:08 AM GMT
That 3rd is very good form, although i would like to see good to soft ground
Report 247lol March 12, 2012 10:09 AM GMT
Presuming your a formbook queen and dont analyze the races to much,so ill give you the rundown on that Trifolium race,Trifolium actually pulled to hard in the early stages of that race but came upsides So young at the 2nd last like he was going to win doing cartwheels, but unfortunately he emptied pretty quickly when asked for his effort,so i woudnt get to carried away with that effort as for me Trifolium could have won that if he hadnt been so keen early on.
Report 247lol March 12, 2012 10:10 AM GMT
Thats why Trifolium wears cheekpieces, notice his improvement in his form since hes had them on.
Report jasey March 12, 2012 10:15 AM GMT
So young made the running against trifolium, and that would'nt have suited him either
Report jasey March 13, 2012 8:04 PM GMT
Rock on ruby shows how good last years neptune was
Report Far From Trouble March 13, 2012 8:45 PM GMT
And hopefully the winner of that race enhances it further tomorrow!
Report jasey March 13, 2012 8:47 PM GMT
